4780 Locking up while gaming

Has happened about 15 times tonight requiring that I push the on/off button to reboot. NO blue screen though. Locks up while I am gaming after about 1 hr. Tried elevating the laptop with no help. Funny but the same thing was happening on my 5680 and oddly it mostly happens when i'm at work.
Could it be related to a powered hub i am using or perhaps a power spike problem?

Thanks for any help!

It might be a case of needing to download any patches for the game.

Is the game a Win 95 platform and you are running XP? This can be a NO GO.

What OS are you using? If Win XP have you installed SP1 and done all your updates and patches?

Game might have an issue with Direct X. Download DX 9.02b(?) and see if that solves the problem.

Try running the game at a differnet resolution. Go lower on your settings.

Hope this helps.

No goasting at all, it looks just like a crt but better!

pf161, Maybe you have a cooling prob? Try running it on battery and see if the locking up persists or plug the sager directly into the wall socket?

could be overheating.... i did apply arctic silver 5 to my heatsink and it helped quite a bit. there is still a lot of heat bundled up in there and i am quite sure it is loading in the high 50s to low 60s.... what can you expect from a 3000mhz processor cooled by a 2x2" cube of copper

Okay I did 2 things and the problem seems fixed.
1. unchecked 802.1x authentication on network checkbox in settings
2. Disabled Norton firewall.

Finally no more freezeups after months of problems.
