ATI garbage - pretty dissappointing. Pretty much makes the 1710 a sure bet for me. I was on the fence somewhat over these two, since there was a rumour a while back that the 2010 would come with Raid 0, which would help one of the remaining weak areas of mobile pc's. But there is zero chance I'd take an ATI solution, been there done that and won't go back.
Please note (and this didn't interest me but it may affect those considering it) the 2010 is a media focused machine, and that may well be why they took the X1800 solution. What I've read over the past month or two on the 2010 was that it was Win MCE focused with a remote, hence the bluetooth keyboard and so forth. For those more interested in gaming this could be "ok" but may have features which you are not so interested in. Just bear it in mind as the news comes forth on the 2010.
The 20.1 screen is supposed to have something like a 12ms response time making it 2x as fast as the 17" wuxga screens we get on the 170 and siblings. That is a noticeable difference when gaming so don't put down the resolution before you know what they gave you in exchange. The contrast and brightness are supposed to be much better too than 17" notebook screens. So you are trading res for better resp, cr, and brightness.
For me, due to the ATI angle alone, my solution is clearly the 1710. But others may still have a hard decision to make.
