cpu speed changing on my 9750-V

when i open properties for my computer, it keeps saying the cpu, (fx-60) is running at different speeds, anywhere from 450 mhz to 2.6 ghz, which is what it is supposed to be. it is very annoying when trying to play demanding games, so anyone who knows what is causing this please help.

This is a normal function when your power settings are set to Portable/Laptop. If you want to always run at full power when plugged in, and at slower speed when on battery, change the power setting to Home/Office Desk. On the other hand, if you always want it running at full speed, including when on batter power, change the setting to Always On.

Be aware though that running on full speed will mean your machine will run hotter.

Thanks!

i'm having the same problem with my fx-60, and changing the power profiles doesnt seem to help. i thought it may be throttling due to excessive heat...but it seems to drop cpu speed almost at random.

using rmclock i can fix it but that's a bandaid fix...i hope there isnt some underlying issue? i tried the /usepmtime boot ini fix...

My FX-60 idles at 1.2Ghz, yours clocks all the way down to 450Mhz?!

Where do I find the CPU properties?

guys i must be an idiot where do you find the cpu properties to view current CPU speeds.n00b0 you say "open properties for my computer, it keeps saying the cpu, (fx-60) is running at different speeds" I looked in properties for "My Computer" clicked all the tabs and nada.

Seeing different speeds is normal. The power management is set up so that the processor downclocks to 1.2Ghz when not under a load. Don't worry, when opening a program or running a game, the FX-60 processor automatically increases to 2.6Ghz.

If you want the processor to always run at 2.6Ghz, right-click on the desktop, choose Properties, Screen Saver, Power..., and change the Power Scheme to "Always On". It will just run hotter when you aren't doing things and use more power.

Thanks phoenix 06. But I can't figure out how to view the cpu speeds at all.

Where is the realtime cpu speed display he's talking about, where he is seeing the speeds jump around?

Download CPUZ it's more accurate and gives you real time speeds.
You have the powernow tech. on. It saves on electricity. If you want to keep it on at all times. Just look under power management and place it on FULL POWER or Always On.
That should do the trick.

There is no realtime display there - he just kept opening it up to see the changes.

Divine_Madcat Thank you.

If you want to take control of your CPU speed uninstall the AMD drivers (control panel - add/remove programs) and install something like CrystalCPUID and get your hands dirty.

I have been running my 4750 like that since I bought it, as well as the new 9750 I just bought now. If you don't like getting into the details of what your CPU speed/voltages are doing I don't recommend messing with that. Not to mention entering a wrong setting might even fry something.
