Just ordered 2 new dells

Just ordered a XPS M170 and a XPS M140 , I was looking at the Alienwares but with the price drop and coupons the dells were the better bang for the buck ,the m 170 with the 7800 gtx made the deal and the m 140 was a good price so I picked up one for the girlfriend ,must be i'm a nice guy ....lol (shhhh don't tell anyone), I hope i'm not disappointed with my choices

One thing to note is that the M170 is about to be replaced by the M1710 and I suspect the M140 is near its end of life as well.

So look at there current prices. Beats the crap out of anything close spec/price wise.

Who cares about the M1710? My P-M is still a monster, and we'll most likely be getting the Go 7900GTX for our M170s.

IMO, while being a good path of upgrades for the XPS line, the 1710 or whatever they'll call it doesn't seem like a big deal.

I think a lot of people care. First off there are no guarantees that the M170 will support the 7900GTX. Plus the M1710 sports a number of improved features such as core duo, faster FSB, next generation wireless, 4 GB memory limit, superior audio, 5 in 1 card reader, etc.

Note that I am not saying the M170 is "chopped liver", but if I were on the fence right now considering a new notebook I would almost certainly opt for the M1710.

I'm far from raising the white flag yet. It's a buyers market right now since the next gen is closer to release. You still get great performance for the money you spend. For those that will settle for nothing less than the newest technology available, then wait a short time to spend a mint for it. Technology is always moving forward, as long as you get a machine that can still keep up with the software, you're in good shape. My next purchase won't come until after Vista is release and somewhat stable.

Well I know that a newer XPS will be coming out soon ,but it really doesnt matter to me , I don't need the latest ,greatest ,overpriced unit going ,my gaming is mostly BF1942 and some BF2 and a few other games , I really was looking for most bang for my buck , and the m170 will handle anything I do, so the price drop along with the performance sealed the deal for me and its a BIG jump in performance jump over my Toshiba , so waiting and spending big bucks for the nextgen of XPS is not what I wanted to do so this m170 will do the job for me and the money I saved will probably get invested in my desktop for a few upgrades so for me its a win win deal...

M140 like just discontinued or will it have another model like the M170? I am just about to pickup an M140 and don't mind if it'll be discontinued, just not made a predeseccor. I'm fine with having the last of something, just not the OLD last of something.

I'm sure you can find a much better 14 inch laptop than the M140. You can try Asus' or MSI's offerings

You will be more than happy with these computers.

The M170 is kick-a$$ and I'm sure the M140 will do 200% of what your GF needs from a computer.

Don't listen to these nay-sayers. There's always going to be something better / newer than the best / newest computer you or anyone else just bought. You made a good choice and got A LOT for your money. No one can argue with that. Even if they do, WHO CARES! You posted this so we could be happy for you and we are so welcome to the l33t M170 club!

Hey everyone thanks for the replies, they where shipped today ,so hopefully they will arrive in a few days ...Can't wait !! Hey Tetris you might be right about finding something better then the m140 ,( believe me I did alot of research) but it was much easier to do both at the same time , and she doesn't need a top of the line laptop , she does mostly surfing ,aol and e-mail with her family, so the m140 should do her just fine . Hey flyguy , you know you have to take care of the lady too.... lol

Hey there <DS>. I just bought an M140 for myself. I must agree with you, it is pretty difficult to find a better deal for a similar config anywhere else. I currently work for a well known PC maker which rhymes with (Sapien/Dare) and even with my discount i couldn't not get close to $701 with shipping and Taxes included. I seriously thought about getting the M170, but the wife would have kicked me out the house if i had done that. My M140 shipped today so i will post my thoughts/comments once she gets here. I sure hope Dell comes back with that $1349 deal on XPSM170. SapienDare doesn't have anything close that even resembles those specs for that price.

LOL on the possible boot , see the trick is to get them something too , that way they don't feel left out (ok its a bribe ) but it works for me everytime I buy new stuff for my babies ...OOPS I mean my computers......LOL ,blan you hit it on the head exactly , alot of good stuff for less ,gotta love it !

I just got my tracking #s this morning both will be delivered on thursday(so UPS claims) guess I can't complain too much ,I ordered on 4/7 and delivered on 4/13 not too bad ....lets see if ups is on time .....

Well as of 7:00 pm est delivery for tomorrow is still a go , I have a feeling work is going to Draaaaagggg and then the hour drive home from Cornell U , could be some road rage going on .... LOL

Good deal ....congrats!!! Lovin mine too only bad part was they sent wrong power cord for the power supply ,made them overnight me one , I did'nt really need it overnight as I had one lying around in my parts bin , but I paid for it so I was going to get it ,cust service was great .....

wow, i guess when you buld so many computers a day people screw things up. mine seems to be fine so far, a bit of light leakage but it is supposed to go away after 2 or 3 weeks, we will see...
