Any Windows-ATI drivers for Mac yet??

post #1 of 11

So, as a Mac user, I'm mainly interested in running Windows for games.
Now that Boot Camp is out, I see lots of info about running various things in Windows on a MacBook Pro, but there's always a caveat along the lines of "of course, we don't have the ATI drivers yet for 3D acceleration, so games will run slow..."

So are there any such drivers available yet??

If were a l33t ueber-hax0r, these would be among the FIRST things I'd have written.....

Boot Camp lets you burn a cd with all the necessary drivers, including graphics, to get things working. While not everything is supported, it probably will be in the future.

From the Apple Site:
For your convenience, Boot Camp burns a CD with all the Mac-specific drivers for Windows:
* Graphics
* Networking
* Audio
* AirPort wireless
* Bluetooth
* The Eject key (on Apple keyboards)
* Brightness control for built-in displays

The drivers supplied in Boot Camp do NOT support hardware graphics acceleration. They are "generic" drivers.

Yes, people have been saying for a while that drivers supporting 3D graphics acceleration should be available "in the future" --- my post was about: Are they available yet? As in, now?

read some more, pc mag just ran doom 3 with those drivers and said it was smooth. try that w/ non-3D drivers.

so yes, they're available now, as in, now.

You can also use an ATI tool to overclock your X1600 to 400/400 since it's factory underclocked to 300/300. Read all about it here:
