Intel Pro 2200 minipci into an I8200

Would the Intel Pro 2200 minipci wireless card from a 9300 fit in the minipci slot of an Insipiron 8200? I wouldn't mind moving it over from the 9300 that Im getting before selling my 8200.

It Should. As far as I know, Mini PCI is a standard and all Mini PCI Cards are the same size and should fit. The only thing to keep in mind would be the location of the antenna connectors, as those could be in different locations.

I never thought about the antenna. My 8200 didn't come with a wireless card installed so I wonder if it will even have the antenna.

I just installed the Intel 2200 in my 8200 and it works fine. Only thing was strange I have only 1 wire for the power terminal but no AUX wire. But it works perfect.

it only comes with one wire and my i8200 work great also.

Great, thanks all!

I guess I will be selling my 8200 with an internal wireless card too.

Yeah, all Inspiron 8200's have the Wi-Fi antenna in them regardless of weather or not you had internal Wi-Fi in the system originally. And Dell does not have a hardware White list in BIOS (unlike what HP has done with some of their models) so any Mini PCI card would work in the 8200. I've had a Cisco Aironet 350 and now an Intel 2200 b/g in it.

The only thing that bothers me is that the single antenna seems to really hamper the reception, I solved that issue by removing my PS/2 port and replacing it with a male RP-TNC connector so I can connect just about any external antenna.

Well since I am only adding the wireless card right before I sell the laptop Im not too worried about the single antenna. The card will be coming out of my incoming 9300 which is getting an Atheros card installed.

one question . Is there only one antenna in the 8200 ? or one antenna conector on the card ?

the card has 2 connectors but the i8200 only has one wire.

yeah, the i8200/C840 only has a single antenna....the cards the systems were originally sold with had only 1 antenna connector. But all the cards you buy today have 2. I ended up adding an external antenna connector to the back of my i8200 so I can use any external Wi-Fi antenna with an RP-TNC female connector.

yep same story with i4000 only has black wire. I think back then the g 54 mbs band wasnt aviable. I needeed to exetend the wire using a small jumper wire onto the areil on the pcb.
