Did you run setup and made sure the BIOS detected the hard drives and that they are properly configured?

RE: HP dv8000t notebook /laptop SATA Drive(s) not being seen by XP during an install.

I would assume you ordered it with Xp Home, and you're installing XP PRO on it with SP2 slipstreamed in already, right? Wiping the hard drive CLEAN, right? (Please note if you delete the partitions- see notes about QuickPlay v2.0 below)

You're NOT using the HP recovery disc, Or the OS disc that costs $10 extra containing just the OS available from HP, right?
(In other words you're using you're own XP install disc, right?)

The problem is you need to install the SATA drivers. It has nothing to do with the bios per-se, You will need a USB floppy drive. (That's what people are saying... ) According to one poster it's better to use the drivers in the C:/Swsetup folder than the generic intel ones: http://forum.notebookreview.com/show....php?p=1318531

BTW: PLEASE post back your results, tips, things you may run across.

Please also post about QuickPlay after a re-install of windows. You need to read this thread very carefully if you want to retain that feature... Assuming your friends machine did NOT ship with a QuickPlay V2.0 install disc. (Ask your friend if he got a QuickPlay install disc... Owners of V 1 got a disc according to one of the poster in this thread.... It has NOT been confirmed if HP is shipping a QuickPlay v2.0 install disc or not for sure, or which of the files in the C:/swsetup directory may be the re-install program for sure. A member by the the name of Jva/v thinks it's located in the c:\swsetup folder, under QPW Looks to be the software, and the registry edits for the keys...http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=141730

Please post anything about QuickPlay here, AND note if QuickPlay still WORKS properly after the XP install: http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=141817

Well... it's been several WEEKS .....

For the benefit of those who may have the same issue, and for the benefit of those that posted ideas, trying to help you.... Did you get everything working? and What did you do to get everything "working"?

I had the same problem. Had to get a USB floppy drive and install the SATA drivers (HP finally have them on the driver download list on the support site. Didn't when I first had the problem) then install windows.
