Im curious whomever has this laptop how is the build quality? ive read reviews but i want real feedback......what the palm rest made of?? cool or no? quiet?

vs a sager 5710, res means little to nothing to me

I'd go for the A7j if they're the same price. You'll get better video performance and the benefits of a dual-core processor.

no one here has one to tell me how solid or cheaply it feels?

no review says what the chasis is made out of, nor what the palm rest is made out of

blarg, and yeah pretty much same price, but seems the A7J isnt customizeable like the z83v is

Z83V's chasis is similar to A6U, Z92KM, Z91N, Z91E, Z91AC, A6V and A6VC or any other Asus laptops with that kind of built-in webcam chasis (not W5F).
for a 17" latop is's surprisely slim and light weight.

I didn't notice any flex when I hold it, the palm rest is made of plastic, here are some pictures and you can take a look:

I have the Z83Jc for over a month now (went to Germany specially to buy this) and as far as I can say the quality is just great. I can't find any difference between Z83Jc and A7Jc other that the Z83 didn't came with a bag and mouse (which anyway I don't need). The look identical and they have identical configuration (Core Duo T2400 @ 1.83 GHz, 1 GB DDR-2 667 MHz, ATI X1600 256 MB RAM, 100 GB 5400 RPM HDD, etc). System information tools report it as an A7 computer. The palm rest area is made of plastic, as the rest of the case. I can tell that I am fully satisfied by this laptop.

I bought my A7D (Z83D) here in Germany for an outstandingly reasonable price. It's a "D" version, that means its a Turion64 with DDR-RAM which suits me just fine as I like the overclock options available to Turion64s and I have a 1GB-DDR400 stick left over from my last Notebook
It's a great, sturdy laptop with a brilliant display, great sound, accurate touch pad, great keyboard and.... and.... and....
The only thing is it's a little bigger than most 17" Laptops so if you didn't get a bag in the deal make sure you have a tape measure when buying and option to exchange!!
The nice 1.3 mega pixel web cam stuck above the screen with the good microphone makes up for the extra 1,5cm height over other 17"ers!!
It's a real portable desktop replacement and plays all the newest games curtousy of X700 DDR3 which oc's to 420/480!!

had mine A7D ordered from Germany too, waiting for it to get delivered
planning on adding another 512 RAM stick myself
question for sirius: does it come with a bag from asus? can you suggest a bag that it would fit in?
I bought mine without the Asus bag and I'm still looking for a good and cheap bag for it. Though I'm not in a hurry to go buy the first I see because my A7D is more a desktop replacement. When I find a good buy then I'll snap it up.
Basically the Laptop bag should accomodate 41cmx32cmx4cm storage space for it to be a comfortable fit. Plus room for the transformer and other appliances...
from the ASUS site I can see A7D's dimensions as 405x314x382 so what you say seems preety logical
what about the transformer, is it bulky/heavy?
I got mine from hoh.de 1179€, how much did it cost you of you don't mind me asking?

TRansformer is a normal size and weight for 90Watts. It gets quite hot though. I bought my A7D for a little less than you through a business deal.
