diff spec

I bought the following for around £945 (bargain for the spec I think):
5652WLMI

Nvidia 7600 geforce go 256mb (faster than the ATI x1400 I believe, though may be wrong).

It has all the other features,

15.4" widescreen mon
5*1 memory card reader
1 gig ddr2 ram
100 gb hdd
1.66ghz centrino duo processor
wifi a/b/g, bluetooth
digital/analog tv tuner (though the supplied aerial is not much cop)
dual layer DVD burner
4 usb2 ports, firewire + 2 video out ports (do not knwo if it can drive two external screens + the internal one (unlikely))

It is the first laptop I have bought for ages (use a dell latitude at work). Definitely nice to play world fo warcraft in bed and games on the train.

I can play WOW maxed out graphics, distance etc. I also play elder scrolls iv, though definitely not on high settings. Does not look as good as my desktop (SLI 7800 GTX 256, 2 gig ram, athlon x" 4800+, 24" Acer widescreen monitor), but plays well.

I would definitely recommend this laptop as a mid-range piece of kit capable of playing games (though only old game on max graphics).

The resolution is not great 1280*800, but is usable. Great for watching movies, though the supplied DVD playback software is not great (acer arcade).

BAttery does not last long whilst playign games, though have not timed it yet. Will update when I have.

The screen is reflective, which is fine, but I prefer the matt screens (work laptop has matt).

w0rd
im gonna w8 to move (in july) to get meself a good amp and speakers.tell me what you think of the z530 if oyu get them.

mutedtele : what kind of screen did it come with? also its cheaper because you only got 1 gig ram. but the 7600 is definately better for gaming. but for all video editing i think the x1000 generatiojn is slightly better.

The screen is 15" widescreen. res is just about ok, 1280*800.

I am looking to upgrade the ram, bu seems quite expensive to do so (at least £150).

Acer Aspire 5672WLMI Worth getting?

I was thinking of getting this model for my son (18) who is a gamer. He plays (as far I as I know Call of Duty) and wondering if this brand is worthy of such a feet? Maybe HP or Tosiba is better?

5652wlmi

It is definitely ok for games, though it is not a high-end gamers laptop. If his primary purpose is to play games, I would go for something with a geforce go 7800 or above in it (or ati 1800).

That said, the size of the high-end laptops are very large. Too large to easily transport. The graphics in this are mid-range, but defuinitely ok to play 3d games. I am running a very new and intensive game on it called elder scrolls iv. I cannot set it to maximum, but can run it at a good graphical level. For the price (about £940 on the internet), it is a great laptop.

The Acer brand is pretty good. They have a great range of laptops, so you may want to take a look at their website www.acer.com

Buying a different brand is ok too, just be sure it has at least a ge force go 7600 card or an ati x1600 (bit better than 7600) card inside. Good luck!

Yeah, if ur looking for a pure-gaming,etc computer look at Alienware and Sager...they got really good stuff for gaming, etc but like he said there pretty big, overral this acer is ok for the casual gamer, but is good/slim for everything else...Personally id advise the ASUS W3J when it comes out..(better than the Acer, but same specs about) its 1,799.99% at proportable.com

hmm id really recommend this lappy for your kid if 1500$ is the price youre looking to pay. it runs w3, WoW, css perfectly with full eyecandy. as for FEAR and other newer games, ive hear dit runs them good on medium settings.
the only problem i see is the fact that acer did a halfassed job building this thing. ive had so many manufacturing errors im sending it back on wednesday.
the other con is the software delivered with it and the 2 FAT32 partitions, but thats nothing a windows xp pro cd cant fix.

I must say the heat isn't rly an issue with my 5672 Awmli .. I did purchase an antec notebook cooler though, as for the mouse thing, just play a bit lower

You can change your partitions using Partition magic (I know I did ^^) and then convert it to ntfs

I have no expierenced any trouble with the touchpad though..

Good notebook ^^

this is a great laptop. I played some games with this laptop w/o a hiccup (CS, lineage2...). Plus i got it at a great price ($900 at compusa). The heat issue isnt a big problem at all, just gotta get use to it. I love my 5672!

am happy with my 5672 , i've been ussing it for 5 months now , the only let Downs :

1- Heat...espacialy when Playin BF2 - FEAR ( but thanks to the Cooling Pad everything is ok now )

2- Low Volume , speakers and Headphons. i know it a laptop...but comparing it to Toshiba/Dell the sound is Low !!

overall , am really happy with it

people... I got an issue. My 5672 overheats. I am planning to get a cooling thing like some have suggested, but it's not only when I'm playing [FEAR handled just fine, but Oblivion just fries the GPU after 2 hours] and it didn't get THIS hot before, but now it's just hot all the time even when not gaming. Oh, and another thing, my laptop's all clean, but some keys get "stuck" but they're not really stuck, they are kinda software-stuck :? if that makes any sense... the letter Q types itself from time to time, as well as the Win and the right Ctrl key, but those ones get "stuck" and they aren't, cuz I've checked, and as I said, my keyboard is all clean and I really dunno what's the problem. And a virus is really unlikely, I'm running Avast...

any help here would be "hot"

I opened mine 5672 when i got it and replaced the thermal paste with something a little bit more expensive, the shit they had on there was dried and crusted from the heat. ever since it did help out alot, especially in the front where the arm rests are, i believe the gpu was under there if memory serves me correct, but it still blasts heat out onto my mouse hand. that was really poor design on there part for that put i tossed a thermal cooler under there to raise it up and the fan hardly kicks in now. but with that i have drifted away from gaming alot, and more to just making beats, w/ fruity loops and messing with virtual dj, i know it might make some people cringe, but i only use my 5672 as a high tech jukebox now with itunes and some plugins, i am mainly on my macbook or i have a small mac mini running vista in another room just for the family to surf the net on. and run a few Hoyle games....

Can anyone tell me step by step how to remove the optical drive for this unit so it can be replaced?
