I6000 Hardware Upgades

About a week ago, I bought myself an early Christmas present...a 24" Dell widescreen LCD monitor. The monitor completely kicks ass, but with it not supporting a 1200 X 800 resolution, I am forced to play most games in a "window" inside the monitor (it does not take up the entire screen).

I am finally not to pissed I didn't research that first, but I was hoping to get some suggestions to improve my FPS. I am running a 1.6 GHz mobile processor with 2 GB of 533MHz RAM and an x300 128 MB. I have all ready opted for a 7200 rpm hard drive, but I would like to do more (if possible) so I can at least get games up to 1680 X 1050.

I guess my question is, what upgrade (besides a video card, I have exhausted that option) will yield the best improvement in games?

EARLY Christmas present? Maybe.. Late Christmas present? lol

As for upgrades to FPS.. I really don't think you can do anything for it.. The x300 will always be a bottleneck for you. I guess you could upgrade the CPU.. But I don't even think that will do much for you with the x300.

yer definatly a bottleneck there. Sell it and go for a 9300! if you think thats crazy well theres not much but OC gpu?

Yeah the X300 won't get you too far unless you don't mind running at half-res 840x525. My 9100 with mr9700 runs CS:S at 1280x800, and the MR9700 is quite a bit quicker than the X300 is.

Unfortunately, Dell doesn't make a good 15" consumer laptop for gaming.

I'd keep my eyes on this link - http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=145639 If they can get the BIOS to work (probably through a hack) you will be able to upgrade to an X1400...not a huge step but certainly a lot more overclockable. The upgrade is about $95 through Dell.

I'm aware of the x1400 issue...I have been on the phone with Dell quite a few times trying to solve that problem.

I have managed to overclock the x300 and I can now play almost all my games in 1680 x 1050, which is entirely acceptable for me. Hopefully I can figure out that x1400 issue...things can only get better from here I guess.

Well, the most recent chat session with Dell uncovered that there are no plans to update the I6000 BIOS to recognize the x1400, so it is now left up to the BIOS knowlegable online.

Does anyone want to take a stab at this???

The 15.4" Precision M70 is brilliant for gaming. It's been out for a year. It wasn't specifically designed for gaming, but that doesn't matter. For everyone but the most demanding, it is a lovely gamer, in a small footprint.
