Question: Does anyone else have any more opinons about the flybook, for what I want. Also does anyone else have any mroe suggestions?
The flybook is too slow, it's designed to be a pda sorta thing, to be honest. The two I pmed you are the best I can think of- averatec and the little sony. Maybe a JVC onenote or a Toshiba libretto if you want uber-tiny.

Why is it to slow?
The processor used is 1 ghz transmeta crusoe. The way the processor architecture is designed means that compared to a 1 ghz pentium I believe this is half the speed, or less. It is desigened to use very little power, which it does well enough.

I just am very sceptical that a processor like that would be able to deal with everyday computing, having a few items open and running xp. It'd bog down like a small wheeled car in really stick poo.

Right now Im trying to decide between the Sony, The Averatec, The MacBook, and the FlyBook (<I cant help it its just so cool). Any opinosn on teh others would be great especailly the sony. Thanks
post #66 of 81
The sony seems to be a great litlle device, long battery life and nice screen, with enough gubbins to keep you happy. If you went with thatm you'd be fine.

The averatex 1000 series is like the sony, but cheaper. It isnt quite as tech-filled, but still pretty decent if you like the look.
battery life on the averatecs has typically been poor to average at best. i was actually down to the sony S series (now the SV series) and the iBook. I went w/ the iBook bc at the time the iBook had the same discrete GPU and was $1k less retail. if u want style and usability i think it narrows u down to the sonys and apples. the sonys imo have a kind of flexible chassis which i don't care for, but go with what works for you.

No idea what that is, post a model number too. We need to know processor speed and model at the least, heh.

Though I'd say get 1 gig of ram.

The reason they probably haven't released one is because they are not very popular. They don't see it becoming popular so until it does, they'll probably stay away from the tablet. If they did release one it would probably be sweet looking, but super expensive considering the price of current tablets.

For that much money you should just get an Intel PowerBook. You're taking a 1500 dollar computer and adding over 1000 dollars of accessories to it to extend it's capabilities. Waste of money, IMO. I could understand getting a PC laptop if money was a concern, but since it's obviously not the PowerBook would be the better choice.

yikes, seems a bit steep for a convertible, but to each their own.
I say go for it with and extra 512mb of ram, get it to 1 gig. It's totally different to an apple, so recomending one isn't very helpful.

what do you mean snafle? Also is this worth it? Rember I need something ultra portabel. Thanks
post #80 of 81
I think if you can afford it, that's a great pc, very portable and highly featured.

Upgrade the memory on it (RAM) to 1 gigabyte. There should be an option somehwere, or email the company. This iwll make it perform better.

Other than that, yeah, go for it.
