Anyone assessed if it is possible, or tried, yet?

No idea. However, I will try to fit the 7800go into the e1505. I see that you have a 9300. Can you try fitting your 6800 into the e1505?

Yes, I could try when my E1505 arrives. Anyone know of whether the pinout will be compatible between the two cards? I'd like to know this before going on this adventure.

the e1505 has the same chasis as the i6000, which are both too small to accomodate the 6800go.

Yes, perhaps I am in denial. I'd so like to have the mid-range GPU power of the 6800 go in the E1505 form factor. And the video cards sort of look the same in the service manuals, so how hard could it be?

OK finally got the opportunity to crack open the E1505 and 9300 together (wife was out shopping ).

Opened the E1505 up all the way, but only needed to take the keyboard off the 9300 before it was painfully obvious that the 6800 was not going to fit in the E1505. Had to try.

I'd post a photo I took of both GPUs together, but for some reason I am no longer allowed to post attachments. How do I fix that?

I was looking for this thread. I also opened the e1505 and the e1705. You definitely can't install the 7800 go in the e1505 . Here are the pics:

kind of a moot point, but are the connectors the same?

They seem to be the same. I forgot something else. You can't install the e1505 x1400 in the e1705 either.

nope that's not gonna happen

desolder the ethernet port and it looks like it would fit. not sure how you'd hold it down though heh

might need to flash the e1505 to the e1705 bios to recognize the card.

edit: take out the wlan card too

I was thinking about that, but it won't happen because the heatsink from the chipset doesn't permit the video card to couple into the socket.

No way it'll work. I'd like to see what a x1600 looks like though, as I'd be perfectly happy with one of those as they're supposed to be pretty good. Unfortunately Dell doesn't have them in any of their laptops, and I doubt that another brand like Acer would have the same kind of layout. Anyone want to try that?

one word: hacksaw

the chipset can deal with a little less cooling

stop at nothing to get this card in the i6400 (relocating the hard drive to the optical bay and using the drive's space for a heatsink and fan woud be a good idea too

edit: looking at the picture again, looks like part of the heatpipe is blocked too. what is doable is to seperate the heatpipe and the blcok part of it, cut the block and bend the heatpipe, then braze them together again.

Yeah right Cirthix...
I would be waiting for you to try it. I already paid for a 4 year warranty.

The 2gb was $160 shipped from newegg, not sure hoe much it is now. But I already had it, was in my I6000D. The system price was $1,066 shipped, so $1,226 total.

And Cirthix, there's no way to relocate the HD to the optical bay, they use different connectors. The DVD drive still uses an IDE interface while the HD now uses SATA. Besides, it's not worth it to hack saw your new E1505 just to get a slightly better vid card in there, it's just stupid.
