Thread Starter
Im wondering if anyone knows anything (im lookin' your way Dell-Machina..) about the next dell laptop model. It must be getting close to that time for a new one. Any rumors of Dell tossing out a 17''?

I have no insider information when it comes to actual chasis design (anymore) but i can tell you the 9100 and the XPS is coming. XPS is first replacing the 5150 and then the 9100 replacing the 8600 but thats a long ways away ( think mid march ) which is projected. Dell probabaly wants to ship the 9100 with a Dothans setup along with the Geforce5700Go which im personally excited about since it has HDTV outputs something the 9600 lacks dont expect blazing scores with the M11 aka Radeon 9600 XT

I've heard that the 9100 will be in the same case/chassis as the 8600, except for some cosmetic differences. Also, my "source" told me that the 9100 will be a 3.2 GHz P4, but I think D-M's opinion that it'll have the Dothan is probably closer to the truth. On the new Nvidia 5700 Go chip, some early testing has shown that the current ATI M10 still beats it in performance. There was a comparison done by extremetech.com that gave the nod to the M10.

I cannot approve that test since it was done on such odd terms. From what ive seen the 5700 has an edge over the 9600xt at least by desktop counter parts every reviewer so far notices performance gaps in the 9600xts favor unless AA and AF is turned up all the way then the 9600xt is the clear winner and just to clarify the 5700 Vanilla is the 5700 go and the 9600xt clocked down is the M11

Actually that comparison was done with a NVIDIA 700Go chip, which is based on the 5650 line not the 5700. A completly different architecture. And one of the only concrete things I've heard about the M11 is that it has been branded, and it will not be known as the 9600XT.

Both these chips should offer impressive gains over thier previouse ones. Whether NVIDIA catches up... we'll find out in a month or two.

9600XT clocked down?? Why clocked down??

I hope nVidia will bring out a good card for once...need their driver and OpenGL support

whats wrong with the 5600? last i recall my desktop (5600 ultra) outscored my friends 9800 vanilla in opengl games

What I found of interest about Extremetech's test was that they ran the Nvidia card at full strength, while clocking down the ATI to its minimum...and the ATI still outperformed the Nvidia in the vast majority of tests. However, I do agree that it would be nice to have the OpenGL support offered by Nvidia.

I really don't care which card performs best. My question is will the 8600 be able to be upgraded to these new cards?

They also used OLD drivers for the nvidia card and also only posted the games where the ati card wins. I think that test is a big LOL

yeah.. there was a really good and fair test im tryign to remember at the top of my head who did the tests i think it was tomshardware. but basically they mentioned that the 5700 slightly edges the M11 but no one will really know until both cards are actually released
