Can´t get my DVD-burner to work

Thread Starter
Hello!

I´ve just come over an external DVD-burner that are plugged in
to the USB-port. I don´t have USB 2.0. It work to burn CD´s with but
when I put in a empty DVD in the burner, it dosen´t work.
My knowledge about computers are very limited.
I have also trubbel to install Nero. The installation work without any
problem, but when I´m about to stat the program after installing
the computer gets very slow, and the program dosent start.
I´ve looked in the unitcontrol (???) (enhetshanteraren - on swedish),
and there are two things that are marked with yellow questionmarks.
One is a unknown unit and the other is a PCI-modem. But I don´t use
the modem. How can I cet the DVD-burner to work?

I have written down as much as I know, so you know where I stand.

Please help me. My computer is a Lifebook E7010, 1,8 Ghz.

That's not surprising. USB 1.0 has a speed of 12 mbits/second, meaning it would take almost an hour just to transfer all the files from the laptop to the burner. In theory it works, but the crappy burners will simply refuse a task of this magnitude.
