GPU Clock speed?

I just got a set of omega drivers for my 5670. I noticed I had some extra tabs and one of them was clock speed. The defualts were 260mhz on the core and 389.25 on the memory. I have no idea about the clock speed of the ram in there but windows sees the GUP as 350mhz. I can adjust the speeds all the way bup to just under 3.5Ghz!!! I know I don't want to do that unless I want a puddle of sager! So what so the clock speeds be set to? is the defualt correct? Or should I bump the core up to 350mhz?

If you're happy, stick with the default. If you're on the edge games-wise (getting sub-30 fps in active environments for the res and eye candy you'd like), then experiment.

My normal method of overclocking a new GPU is to use a combination of 3DMark and a looping demo of the games I use. The latter assumes the game supports it. In some cases, I just play the game for awhile and keep an eye open for artifacts.

I first start by bumping up the core by 5MHz per loop until 3DMark starts looking wierd or locks up. Then I back off the last bump and do detailed testing. I usually don't worry about 1MHz bumps until I've done the same tests with memory. And memory bumps tend to be more forgiving in that the usual result from being too highly OC'd is visual artifacts rather than a lockup.

are there any worth while free 3DBench marks?

The standards of today are 3dmark03 and aquamark3, both free of charge.

I have an 8890, and run latest omega drivers and have the clock rate at 438.5 / 283.5. No artifacts, no problems, avg. 11,700 on 3Dmark2001se.

any know their clock speeds on a 5670? I'm a little less than happy w/the preformance of need for speed undergound at 800x600.

This is probably a really dumb question, but how do you get the tab for clock speed? I have the latest Omega drivers on my 5680, and I don't see any extra tabs for overclocking.

Google for "coolbits"

when you installed the omega drivers did you uninstall the ati control panel first, along with their drivers?

Yes. I uninstalled, then used Driver Cleaner + Cab Cleaner. See my issues here. I'm actually interested in down-clocking the memory.

Omega's latest DO NOT include Rad linker or rad clocker. You'll have to get them from here http://www28.brinkster.com/chrisww1942/ he has the full blown radlinker or just the clocking util. My default clocks are 249.75/190 core/mem as per radclocker.

With Omega drivers you install the new driver over the old one. It's possible the preceding driver set {3.9} included clock rate, and then when I installed the new {3.10} it remained.

You could try installing the previous driver set and see if it gives you all the tabs {VPU recovery, rotation, clock rate, smartgart, etc.} and if it does you could then install the latest 3.10 drivers over that.

That's most likely the cause. I have VPU Recovery, rotation, and smartgart. I'm just missing the clock rate tab. Doh

Just realized that coolbits is an nVidia thing and we're talking about the ATI Omega drivers...
