anyone gone from 15.4 to 14.1 inch screen?

i just ordered a dell XPS M140 and a day or so later, i was looking at the specs and i see i ordered a 14.1 inch screen. i thought i'd just call dell and see if i could upgrade to a 15.4 inch screen and then upon doing some research, i notice the M140 only comes in a 14.1 inch screen.

no biggie, right?

all my laptops have been 15.4 inch and i only worked on a 14.1 inch screen for about half a day. i don't think the smaller size will bother me, but has anyone "downgraded" to a smaller laptop screen and if so, did you miss the extra inch or so?

just curious. any advice, thoughts are appreciated! thanks in advance!

you cannot equip an XPS M140 with a 15.4 inch screen, so you're going to have to order a whole new model.

i know that now. i didn't know that when i ordered. i wasn't paying attention to the screen size as i worked through my order. i think i'll be OK with it. i was just wondering if i'd miss the extra inch.

i have a 15,4, and i'm sure my next notebook will be a 14 or smaller one, widescreen, of course. 15,4 is starting to become big to me.

also, sometimes i wonder how people can order a notebook, pay lots of greens and don't look at the specifications... lol... i mean, when i bought mine, i could tell you all the specifications by head... you guys amuse me...

14.1" with SXGA+ is the best combination

My Latitude is 14.1" with SXGA+ (1400x1050). Personally I think this is the best combination for a laptop. Not too big yet sufficient work space.

I went from 15.4 to 14 and much prefer the latter - 630m all the way.

I went from a 15" SXGA to a a 14" WXGA and I'm like the latter better. It's more portable and the fonts are legible without me buggering with visual settings.

I think the portability and decrease in weight more than make up for that inch. I'm trying to sell my new Acer 5672 in order to purchase a smaller notebook.

i was looking at the specs, i swear! i just didn't know the M140 only came in 14"...i glossed over the screen thing because i assumed they were all 15.4". i know all the other specs and when i was ordering, i knew what i was getting....except laptop screen size. oops!

i guess if i had a choice, i'd opt for the 15" screen. it's what i have now and i like the size. i am used to it. however, i got a good price on the M140, so...

i have lappies of both sizes. i do prefer the 15.4" for everyday use, however i can live with 14" since it gets me better mobility and battery life.

i was half-tempted to keep both (other laptop being a gateway MX6421), but it doesn't play DVDs very well, methinks.

It's a good question, really, because I was thinking the same. I really like my 15.4 lappies... until I actually take them out of home of course.

In my opinion, 15.4 is too big to be really portable. By "portable" I understand not only that it can be moved from a desk to annother, but being able to use it in your lap or in your hands. Try to do that with a 15.4 and you'll understand.

I own a 14.1, regular aspect, SXGA+ laptop and I don't like it either. Widescreens are simply more natural to the eye and feel bigger at any size.

I am very tempted by the newer Latitude D620. It's 14.1 WXGA+. But I am going to wait and see if Dell ever wakes up and decides to improve the trackpoint. If they offered the same level of ergonomics of a Thinkpad, I would not think twice.

I used both, and I prefer 14.1" because it's the same resolution, and you save a big on weight. It is always welcomed !

I would also like to try 12" ...

keep the 140m !

i've used a 15.4 for the past two years and feel it's perfectly portable. i have it on my lap all the time (i have a big lap!) and take it to coffee shops, etc. i think i'll be fine with the 14, but we'll see. i think i will LOVE the improvement in battery life (2.5 to over 4, i hear!).
