Radeon 9600 and OpenGL...

I'm interested in possibly buying a Gateway M675XL. For the CAD apps that we will be running, we must have full OpenGL compliance.

Is the ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 8x AGP w/ 128MB DDR video memory in the M675XL fully OpenGL compliant?

Are there any tests/benchmarks that can be performed to verify this?

SiSoftware Sandra can display OpenGL support information. With my desktop card, Radeon 8500, all OpenGL items are supported. I would assume the same about the Radeon 9600. You can ask some of the owners of ABS F2's to use Sandra to verify their systems.

Should get something with a Fire GL for that kind of work I think.

The HP machines (ZD 7000) that I've been looking at have that, in the form of an nVidia 5600 FX. However, all of the test reports show the Radeon coming out clearly on top (and by quite a margin in some cases).

I'm pretty sure (about 98.5%) that our application will work with the Radeon flawlessly, it's just that 1.5% that scares me a little bit when I'm spending $3000 on a laptop...

Thanks romo!!!

That appears to be a pretty convincing list.

ATI FireGl T2-128 based on the M10

http://www.ati.com/products/mobilityfglt2/index.html

I'm sure there are several notebook manufacturers/sellers that offer machines with this chip. The IBM T41p and the R50p are the ones I've seen recently that look very nice.

I'd get the T41P if you can afford it
I believe the major (only?) difference between the 2 is screen resolution. Been a while since I've checked the IBM site though...

Also make sure to read the reviews in this forum of the T41p and the R50p. Some good info/opinions/facts contained in them and some links of interest.
