Need a quiet, long battery life, cheap laptop for HS - Page 2

Doesn't the Dell X1 use only heatpipes, ie no fans? That would be a nice quiet laptop, though it's a little smaller than you were looking at 12.1". If you are patient you could probably get one on eBay for under $1,000. That will be the quietest laptop you can get, and it charges to 80% in an hour, which is nice. Might think about that one. Otherwise a 600/700m might work out for you, look on Dell outlet and see if you can find something. Even the new 14.1" B130 would work for you, though it might not be super quiet.

And don't worry about what anyone says, HS labels are stupid and won't follow you past HS. I wasn't popular in HS but I have plenty of good friends now. It really doesn't matter what you're labeled as in HS, just as long as you are yourself.

Good luck finding a good laptop!

You should be able to get a low end laptop from bestbuy for about 800, maybe 900. As many above have said you dont need a laptop in day to day use in high school. I think a laptop is nice to have at home so you can work where ever you please and there are situations where you might want to bring it to school, and in those cases, watch it carefully. I remember a freind getting laughed at for bringing a laptop to school, and now my friend is in university and the other guy will be lucky to ever get out of high school, so dont let that bother you.

computer_n00b are you looking to game w/ the computer at all? if yes, then stop reading, but if no, then i'd recommend you look at the Compaq v2000 series of lappies. i bought one for my wife and have been very impressed with it. sub 5 lbs, thin and light 14.1" glossy widescreen, decent battery life, with a larger battery option if needed, and it is very quiet even w/ the fan running. the one i bought has a 1.8 ghz turion, 512 mb ram, 80 gig hdd, dvd burner and iirc it was around $800. only down side is that it shares the video memory, which is not a big deal if you don't plan to game.

at my high school they don't allow laptops anymore because some kids hacked the system or something. only the 3 or 4 seniors who take online courses during their study halls are allowed to have them. having a laptop in high school is not important, go with a desktop. you can get more bang for your buck that way
