To the GP: Yer one picky bastiche! I was looking for the exact same things in my next laptop.

Damn skippy I am. I'm not about to throw down 2k+ on something that is only marginal to me. We just orderd a Cobalt from Chevy decked out exactly the way we wanted it. Even though it's a "cheap" car, I wasn't about to spend 18 grand and settle for not having this or that. Screw that. You only live once. And if I have to get by without a lappy, then so be it. Atleast I won't be beating my self up with buyers remorse

That HP nc6400 that lazy offered up is tits, except for one thing. It appears to have a matte screen. The graphics are a wee bit underpowered too but should be roughly on par with my old-school 9800 Pro in my desktop, which would suit me fine. Hell, I still play Starcraft and Unreal (as in, the original Unreal that looked sooooooo bitchin' on a GLide driver. I miss 3dfx)
That HP is quite nice though, I especially dig all of the security features in it. I'm really half tempted to pick it up, but I've become so accustomed to the nice bright shiny display on my girlfriends MSI S262 that I'm currently typing on. If this thing had a bit higher res screen and a decent video card, I'd be allll over it. 12.1" widescreen is very useable and very light, I just need higher resolution.
Either way, that HP just ruled out the Dell. Maybe I'll wait for the A8J. The W3J was PERFECT for me, except for the damn screen resolution. Bah.
And not that I expect this from any PC laptop manufacture in my lifetime, but for the love of god, BACKLIT KEYBOARDS! Apple had no problem with this and everytime the self-proclaimed-computer-god-Apple-dork that I work with comes around with his powerbook or whatever the hell it is, he rubs it in every time. God I hate that man. Backlit keyboard, it can't be that freaking difficult! And something else, can we come to an agreeance on where the damn function key gets placed? On the first laptop we had, it was where the Ctrl key should be, the next one, it was placed where it should have been, in between the Ctrl and windows keys. Now on this MSI, it's back where the Ctrl key should be. I Ctrl + Enter in Internet Explorer all day long and that really pisses me off.
So anyhow, back to the Asus. According to their US website, this is supposed to be available mid-October. Looks like I'll have a new toy to play with as it meets all of my requirements.
Thanks Labmouse.
