Just got a 9750 but having issues

My wife just last week got a new 9750 and while it seems to be a rather nice laptop it does have a few problems that we noticed. Anyone have any ideas if these are common with this laptop or a defect of some form?

The first problem we noticed was with the sound card. The sound card would sometimes have problems doing the auto-detect of what is plugged in on what port, so it would pop open the realtek audio interface and keep repeatedly sensing for the plugs, only way to really get rid of this would be to reboot the computer. Also possibly related to this is that the microphone would sometimes stop working after a while of use.

Second problem deals with the speakers. There tends to be a crackling sound every so often from the speakers. I've read that this may be a driver related issue but am not sure.

Another issue is that the wireless card does not seem to be very sensitive for wifi signals. In a given area, my other laptop can detect easily around 10 wifi signals but the 9750 only detects 1-3. I have opened up the keyboard and checked if antennae was correctly connected to the primary, and it is. The wireless card we have is the G + BT combo version.

Anyone have any insight on any of these issues? Wondering if it is worth keeping the laptop or not since we have 30 days to decide if we want to return it or not.

I have had my 9750 just under 3 weeks. Although without BlueTooth, my Wi-Fi connection was problematic at first, also. I downloaded the latest drivers from MSI and Ralink, and am using the MSI drivers which seems to have helped. But I also had some router issues that had nothing to do with the notebook. Once I got the router issues resolved and having updated the wireless adapter drivers, it's working like a charm, so far.

I had read about noise issues with the soundcard and jacks, but haven't experienced anything problematic that I haven't heard on other notebook computers. I did update the RealTek drivers anyway, and that might have helped some. Whatever component noise is there is clearly dissipated by music playing, either via the onboard speakers or the headphones.

If you haven't tried driver updates, give that a chance before deciding to return your unit.

Update from me on our 9750.

Ok the wireless + bt mpci card is probably not that great, but not that big of a deal since I could just replace the card or try updating the driver.

However the sound system seems to have problems and this is a bigger issue. The other day while wife was using it, the sound just stopped all together. As in literally it just gave out and no audio anymore. The only way to get it to work again was to either reboot or open the realtek audio manager and have it re-sense the ports. Once either is done, audio works again. Keep in mind I have tried updating to the newer realtek drivers from their website, however even after doing this the audio still gives out once in a while. (Also the light fritzy/crackling noise that I talked about can be heard when playing music, because it distorts the music.)

My guess is that perhaps there is something physically wrong with the laptop, because prior to seeing this problem. Upon our second time of booting up this laptop last week, the audio manager would literally loop on the auto sensing feature as I posted on my initial post. My guess is that this is perhaps a problem with one of the wires, perhaps not connected well... maybe loose?

In any case, my wife likes the laptop a lot, but it should not be having this type of problem with the audio, even after trying a newer audio driver. Leaning more towards returning it now.

Yes, it does sound as though your unit has physical ailments in the sound system.

Last night I did the following on my system and have as good a sound experience through my headphones and through the onboard speakers as might be expected. I downloaded WinAmp media player (free edition). I set the realtek equalizer for "soft" music, and with the sound effects set at "carpeted hallway" (helps dissipate echo and reverb). I set the WinAmp equalizer to default (flat line zero settings across the spectrum). My music of choice, at sky.fm, is smooth jazz. I first listened through a pair of low-end Sony headphones, and got playback equivalent to any component stereo system I've used before. Tonight I'm trying the configuration on the onboard computer speakers, and am not dissatisfied. The only difference is that I had to tweak the WinAmp equalizer to match the settings on the RealTek equalizer. I don't know the audio engineering and physics aspects to this, but can fairly judge the quality of sound I'm receiving, and it is more than acceptable--somewhat to my surprise given what had been heard on this system until last night.

At any rate, I don't think we can expect Bose quality playback from the stock audio card and drivers on the 9750. I've not yet tried external speakers, so don't know what they sound like driven by this system. But, again, your issues do seem more physical. You be the judge whether what I have described here might be worth a try. Nothing to lose, really.

Best wishes with it.

Got my 9750 4 weeks ago with same problem as Lyshen

Both my mic and headphone port were working but, they recently stopped. I tried changing mics and updating drivers and nothing. I e-mailed Sager and this is the conversation.

Problem1:

Microphone port not working and have had intermittent sound issues. Already tried latest driver from realtek.

(Tech Support)

Please go to the Windows Master Volume control panel (by highlight the speaker icon locates in the lower right corner of the windows task bar and right click it) -> select Properties from the Options tab -> on the Properties menu select “Realtek HD Audio rear input” in the Mixer device: text box and check all the boxes in the “Show the following volume controls:” box then click the “OK” button -> On the Recording Control menu make sure the Microphone select box is checked.

Now see if you can record sound from microphone.

For the intermittent sound issues, could you be more specific about what is wrong with the sound output?

(My Reply)

I don't have the option of "Realtek HD Audio rear input." The only option I have is "Realtek AC97 Audio." The microphone was selected under this mixer option and it still doesn't work. I have tried testing it in windows through the sound control options, Windows Live Messenger's audio set up, and Ventrilo. None of these worked. I had it working the first couple days I had the laptop, but it stopped working and I haven't changed anything on the system. I also used a microphone that works on my PC, so I'm sure its not the microphone. As to the Intermittent sound, the rear speakers weren't working, but I reinstalled the realtek drivers and they starting working again. Any more help with this issue would be greatly appreciated as I use my laptop to communicate with people over the net.

In my reply I forgot to mention the Headphone Jack not working. I have yet to get another message back but I'm not sure I should. The e-mail adress is webrma@sagernotebook.com so I'm sure the e-mail didn't go directly to the support guy that e-mailed me (sounds like a shared e-mail account). I also had a video problem (mentioned in one of the other threads) with small red and blue pixels on the screen. It seems to only happen in darker gray areas on the screen. At first I thought this might be just some GeForce thing (always had ATI cards in the past) but I see others have this problem. Other than those problems, I think this is a great laptop. Although I do wish I could turn off the touchpad Anyone have any ideas?

Use Fn+F10 to turn off the Touch pad! Use again to toggle on / off

It is a shared account. If you want to stick w/ a certain rep, you should probably put that person's name in the Subject line. Otherwise, you're most likely going to get juggled around and then the history of what's happened is going to get lost in the juggle.

I dumped my wireless card and installed a Intel wireless card. No more issues, to replace the card it is located under the key board. No more lag in games and always stay connected.
