dell vs apple

Thread Starter
I'm in the market for a new computer and have looked at dell for the low price and apple because I've heard they're good. I've used windows for the past 9 or 10 years and am a little worried about switching back to mac but that won't effect my decision really. I was hoping someone could give me some pros and cons between an Inspiron E1705 and a MBP.....thanks!

Well, unless you're absolutely dead-set on using MacOS (it sounds like you aren't) then I'd say do your wallet a favor and buy a Dell. The E1705 isn't $1200 worse than a MacBook Pro. The only disadvantage the E1705 has is its larger size than the MBP (Unless you want a large screen) But for $1500 you can get a nice E1705 complete with 3 year on-site warranty vs an Apple that is $2700 with 90 days support and a 1 year warranty. I know MacOS is pathetically easy to use and all....but $2700 for a notebook and only support it for 90 days? WTF indeeed

I thought u have made one thread about it already great MBP are the best 15.4 laptop available Very Light (almost the lightest), Super Fast with core duo 2.0Ghz and super fast x1600 (lets remember its only 1' thick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) not like 2 or 3' from gateway or dell or etc.
Good u went with apple - 100% of satisfaction Best choice of your life

apple does not meet the price vs performance mark I require, Dell is the answer from me.

I am all about the cool boy factor, but it must be temperred wit hrational thought and constrained by a realistic budget.

If you have the extra dough to throw, then more "Power" to you. get it ? power, as in powerbook.. hahahahahahaaha ahhh nevermind.

The dell is .4" inches thicker and an extra pound or so. not a huge difference.

if you dont need to switch, then dont. The extra costs of new harware and software isnt worth it IMO.

ID still rock a M70 with a Geforce7800 over a MBP anyday

Even though I am a Windows/IBM guy in general I have a brain and if the MacOS and hardware were so much greater than any other laptop out there then it would be a draw for me to have switched over a long time ago, the rub is this though, I go to CompUSA, and I see exactly how small the Apple section is compared to pretty much the rest of the entire store, then I look at a comparible laptop to mine 1.8Ghz Duo, 2GB mem, 100GB HDD, ATI Video, 15.4: screen and then see $2,499.00, and every time it comes to the price. the extra $1059 and no 17", Geforce 7800 Go, or 3year warrantee just doesnt cut it for an educated person. No matter how great a GFX workstation apples may be, just does not justify the extra money.

I am not flaming apple guys either, there are some pretty smart ones out there. I myself would not mind owning a Mac to play with and see if I like it, but I just cannot drop nearly $2500+ on something I can buy for 42% less money and still do what I want it to and get a longer warranty and faster gameplay etc. What makes this even more interesting is how they are moving to an intel based platform. What risc based processors not cutting it?

In the end, get what you can afford, and make sure it will do what you need it to do. I rarely if ever hear anyone buy an IBM based, or Mac laptop and say that they couldnt do X. (well except the ones who dont do their homework that is.)
