ps. i know the sticky says it can go up to 2gb... but i've heard alota different amounts for the max ram
m6805 - for me
768MB PC3200 = TOP performance in conjunction with a 7200RPM Hard Drive
I tried 1GB PC2700 and must say that the 768MB PC3200 is performing much better. One can take full advantage of the FSB, SisSoft2005 marked PC2700 at 2200 + on Memory Benchmark, PC3200 = 2800+ and at 89% bandwidth efficiency. Some people would disagree, as in "more ram is better". CoD 1&2 and AE2 fly under PC3200. AE3, well, i need a better graphic card :-) but not bad overall. I have not seen (nor heard) any m6805 going 1gb PC3200 YET! I am working on it. By FiZi site, there is a tweak to get PC2700 166MHz running at 200Mhz, but with a relaxed timing (CAS) and 512MB.
Personally, XP with more than 2GB is an overkill. I saw, again personally, no improvement between 1gb and 1GB+ ram. Faster Hard Drive is much much better.
I have NO luck with CAS 3.0 ram module, watch the voltage, again Spinitch sticky covers a lot of ground in this area.
For a refresh, I just update the VIA chipset with 5.08A (FiZi eMachines Portal sticky) and swear by it that my m6805 has, and still, a big jump in performance.
