m675 wait is killing me! - Page 4

Camshaft: welcome to the waiting area. Enjoy the muzak!

Jawest: our packages are definitely travelling together. Although my carrier must be getting a little out of breath: departure scan in Louisville, KY at 4pm. How ironic that my machine will go from China to Anchorage to Kentucky only to return west to Oregon!

You'll have yours before I will - let us know when you get it!

Enjoy, and don't forget to write a review!

CoolWind: Great to be here, but can someone please change this elevator muzak?!? Hope you get your notebook soon.... You can just about write a book on the Gateway Shipping SAGA..

Good news for me. Another Update today saying:

Feb 16, 2004 5:23 P.M. BARTLETT, TN, US ORIGIN SCAN

Jawest - sweet! CONGRATULATIONS!!! Enjoy the break-in period and please post us some pics.

My journey is almost over as well - it was out for delivery as of an hour ago - should be here any minute...

Congrats to you both

One of the onsite techs was here working on another laptop, and he saw my M675's already heavily used keyboard. His comment was, "geesh, how much do you use that keyboard? you should get a new one..."

kuldaan: thats too funny. Although I do hope your keyboard is OK and you're not having any problems with it. My own 2-year old Thinkpad keyboard looks like crap, and I burned through 3 keyboards on the 6-year old Gateway desktop!

Anyway, the journey for THIS guy is finally over! It's HERE!!!

UPS guy left in front of my door 5 mins ago. Good thing I'm working at home today or it would have sat outside in the Oregon rain for hours... unbelievable!

As you can imagine, the guy barely had time to put the package down before I dove on it!

Nearly one month after placing the order, the journey is finally complete. All my best wishes to all of you still awaiting receipt of your machines. Now I need to finish my work and then get busy unpacking, testing, and photographing this new machine for the review I hope to put up in a day or so.

Coolwind,

Glad it finally arrived Enjoy.

The keyboard physically is fine, I've just already worn some of the keycaps smooth since my colleagues and I have used it very heavily already.

Well worth the wait!

Tucsonan: hang in there - trust us: it's worth the wait. Here are some bananas sacrificed towards a defect-free delivery:

BucsJosh: congratulations! Ain't it sweet? I'll have to say although Gateway did not impress me with their customer information post-order, their quality control on the m675 seems to have made up for it. This is a beautiful machine - no dead pixels on mine either...

Just gotta get through another day at work and then it's back to working up the review!

Coolwind, I too was VERY lukcy and got what seems to be a perfect display so far.

I had the HP ZD7000 in the past that I liked very well, but I must say I like this laptop even better.

Looks like everyone got theirs around the same time. Good luck everyone. Hopefully we can all get some reviews going once we can find a moment to stop playing with these things.

Gateway screwed up

Received my M675CS. Those a**holes put a 4200 rpm drive in it. I'll be returning the thing in the morning.
Returned my M675CS to Gateway store today. The store reps insisted the 5400 rpm hard drive isn't available with the M675CS, that I was stuck with the 4200 rpm hard drive, so sorry. I then asked to use one of their PC's in the store and logged onto the Gateway Sales chat site. Here is the transcript of that session:

16:33 New party ('Craig') has joined the session
16:33 You have been placed in queue. An advisor will join soon to assist you. When you choose to finish your chat, please use the EXIT CHAT button on your right.

16:34 Craig> I am looking at buying the M675CS and am wondering what speed the 60gb hard drive is?
16:36 New party ('Leon') has joined the session
16:36 Leon> Welcome to Gateway.com , home of the hottest new Digital TVs and Cameras on the market! My name is Leon and I will be your eSales Advisor today! My phone number is 1-800-846-2036. What phone number are you at today?
16:36 Leon> Hello Craig. How are you doing?
16:37 Craig> ok
16:37 Craig> Can you answer my question?

16:38 Leon> Yes, the HDD has a speed of 5400 RPM/
16:38 Leon> .

16:38 Craig> Are you sure, I don't want to order one and get a 4200 rpm drive?
16:39 Leon> It is 5400 on the 675 notebooks.
16:39 Craig> ok. thank you very much. I will be in touch later this week.
16:40 Leon> ok. You can call me at 800-846-2036.
16:40 Leon> Is there a # I can call you at?

16:40 Craig> ok. thank you.

Both the retail sales rep and the store manager were watching me chat online with the Gateway salesperson. I then turned to them and said "would you like to ask your Expert Gateway salesperson any more questions about whether or not 5400 rpm hard drives are available for M675 notebooks?". They were speechless.

They finally said give them a week to get one in and they would install it for me.

I'll let you know in a week or so what the final outcome is.

"You gotta fight - for your right - for a 5400rpm haaaarrrrrdddd dddrrrriiiivvvve"

Nice job Tucsonan! That's the way to make sure misinformation doesn't spread! They should have given you a discount or an upgrade to the 80gb HDD (5400rpm of course!) for educating them!

Congrats to everyone who received their 675's.

M675cs

My local Gateway store's customer service surprised me by calling me this afternoon saying my M675CS with the new 5400 rpm hard drive was ready for pickup. They managed to get this turned around to me in 3 days! While I'm disappointed it had to happen at all, I am impressed they resolved this issue so quickly

And now that I've had a couple more hours to check the machine out it looks to be pixel perfect (and it does indeed contain a Hitachi 5400rpm hard drive)! No known defects at this time. Thank goodness!
