Question : Power Inverter

I am completely clueless on what type of power inverter I will need so that I can use my XPS Gen 2 in the car while away on our family trip. All I know is that I need one with 2 or 3 plug spots so I can hook in the laptop and two cell phones (one will be used for phone as modem).

Anyone know what power specs I need or maybe have a link to something that would work well?

Thanks

you want to get at least a 150watt inverter, otherwise it won't work. Thats about all the requirement you need, I would suggest not getting the cheapest one you can find though.

I bought a 150-watt inverter from invertersrus. As long as the rating on the inverter is over 130 watts (plus whatever else you plan to plug in) you should be fine.

I saw also reading in a couple other posts about the radioshack 350w. My main thing is being able to hook up multiple items at the same time

Will check out the those that you two mentioned right now

Be aware that in most vehicles, the cigarette lighter only outputs about 70W. For anything in excess of that, you'll have to run the inverter directly off the battery (making driving around with your XPS plugged in a bit impractical).

Foul

Well my family and I rented a Honda Oddesey which had a couple of DC outlets, and we were able to run two inverters with a 9300 on one and an XPS Gen2 on the other at the same time. However when we tried plug in a 3rd notebook (600m) the fuse for the power outlets blew. Also the engine had to be running for the inverters to work.

for a toyota camary (1999 i think?) max from the cigertte lighter is 120W, 10W away from 130W

does any1 no wut the typical watts for the plane data ports are? (9hour flights to Brazil are a B!tch...)

Powered my XPS Gen2 with the 130-watt inverter on a six-hour drive to Chicago in a 2005 Corolla without a hitch. Works fine in my Dodge Ram, too.

The highest wattage rating I've seen for airline in-seat power is 75 watts, not enough for 9300/Gen2, although I think someone in this forum suggested a work-around.

mabye they upped the wattage for the >1999 models... workaround for airlines? (lemme guess, this involves paperclips? )

LOLZ--in your thread, I think someone has an answer to the airline problem--100% paperclip-free.

But if you have an audio system, there is an easy workaround. I hvae a 300w invertor mounted in my car and it gets its power from the distribution block for my audio system that is connected directly to the battery with 2 gauge wire. It's got two 3-prong outlets so I can run my laptop and something else if I want to.
