E1705 with 7800go: Overclocking the GPU - How do you control the temperature?

Hi U!

Overclocking my GPU the temp sometimes goes up to 88 degrees. Well, that`s still below the 92 defgees when the fan turn higher und the but I`d prefer to keep it in the 70`s. I`d just fell a lot better.

So what I hope to learn from you is:

1) Is the I9KFanGui the adequate tool to manage the fans or ist there another software solution? One the one hand I`ve read that it doesn`t harmonize with the E1705, on the other hand some of you guys seem to have it running!

If it is not advisable to use I9KFanGui, isn`t there a way to manipulate the BIOS, e.g. in order to turn on the fan-level-2 at 85 degrees or so?

2) If there is no software solution - Do you know about hardware-coolers for the E1705, and if so: Is that wise?

Thank`s in advance

Yours

Dr. Doom

Well I have a 7800GTX and I used arctic silver on the GPU itself.

I usually always have i9KFanGUI running. I also have a CoolerMaster Notepal cooling pad.

My GPU runs 51c idle and around 78c on full load. CPU rarely hits above 40c

And there's no way to edit the BIOS to modify those things as of this time. (that I know of)

I put AS5 on the GPU and the CPU. I have a ghetto home-made laptop cooler that I use when it's on my desktop, but none when it's on my lap (most of the time). I don't use I9KFanGUI because of its problems with compatibility, but I find that the built in fan management keeps it at about 55 idle and <80 full load. CPU goes between 20-40 depending on if the fan is on or not.

@ Tachikoma:

- How many degrees is the coolermaster able to bring the temp down?

@ Cpt.Jack:

- Can you tell me about the the difference in degrees after the usage of AS5?

I don't know. I just use it

@ Tachikoma:

- U have the 40cm-wide-version for your E1705?

- Never checked the temp without that stuff? Would be an opportunity now to do so!

I just bought whatever version they had at Fry's. It's a bit small for my laptop but the laptop sits nicely on it (not in the way it's supposed to, but directly on top).

I honestly don't care because the treshold on the 7800GTX is 115c so as long as it doesn't ever get that hot (which it doesn't and probably never will, highest is around 80c) I'm not worried.

I don't think the AS5 made all that much difference in the GPU as far as cooling it down, but I think it helps it keep from overheating when I'm overclocking it. It seems to make more difference in the CPU (idle at 20 with fan on low).

Another vote for Arctic Silver here, though I use Ceramique rather than AS5. @370/900, I'm getting mid-60s Celsius when playing WoW , when i9kfangui feels like reporting a temperature other than 20C
