Now, do these processors represent a new wave of tech that blows away the current AMD X2 processors? Will these chips cost a ton of money when they come out? I want to spend about 600-800 on my cpu and if these are out of my budget, I will just build now.
1) The articles with AM2-benchs are obviously nothign to get excited about, but its _always_ worth it to wait until ACTUAL benchmarks come out, like, when the chip has been released. Its unfair to say its a poor chip until that date.
2) Because it is a move to DDR2 it is a good idea to wait for the chip, even if performance is the same because the overall move in the PC market is away from DDR1, and on towards DDR2 and eventually DDR3.
3) There will be plenty of high end chips you can get for 600-800, probably the X2 5000+ (AM2) will be in that range. (der yea, that daily-tech article sums it up)
My personal feeling is post june-6th benchmarks will be better than we've seen in the previews (for am2), but nothing super great. Then again, i highly doubt conroe will be as terrific as those previews suggest as well. Only time shall tell.
