Sorry to burst your bubble but a 200M based x300 isn't a x300. It's just a fancy way of saying ATI integrated graphics.

The 200M only has 2/3 of the performance of a dedicated x300.

That was pretty tricky for Bestbuy to describe the 200M in that manner.

[Edit] I have an HP L2000 with the same integrated graphics solution. The 200M scored 503 for 3dmark05, 949 for 3dmark03, 3297 for 3dmark01. I can play Half Life (actually Counter Strike) is fine assuming there's no smoke. BF2 is playable at low settings as well.

nah, they call that "imaginative" marketing :-) - following paragraphs are being extracted from a q&a on the HP site when my little bro bought a turion v2321US

"... The official marketing information does NOT say it is a ATI Mobility Radeon X300 but it says "Integrated ATI Mobility Radeon X300". (here's the catch - integrated is so so, dedicated is the way to go)

"Integrated ATI Mobility Radeon X300" means your Graphics Controller is embedded inside your Northbridge as an Integrated Graphics Controller or your embedded Graphics Controller is based on X300.

Since it is an Integrated Graphics Controller system, the Graphics Performance will NOT be the best for any extensive 3D gaming. You may able to increase your Gaming performance if you increase your UMA size or Shared Memory Space for your Integrated Graphics Controller to 128MB. However you do need at least 512MB system memory before you can increase it to 128MB."

so basically the x300 BASED ati card is really a 200m? funny because they say on their ad the laptop has a 3D gaming video card...
not really - one must read the fine print
x300 comes in "based/embedded" which is an upgraded x200 and comes also with DEDICATED memory.

Just be careful before buying. I look at this as just a mobility 9600 with the PCE architecture.

actually the lappy in question - Gateway MX6450 - is one of the few first that embraces the ATI RadeonĀ® Xpress 200M chipset. By doing so it is really a better introductory lappy for beginning gamers and small graphikers alike at a very affordable price. The keyword here is the CHIPSET. So this lappy has a Xpress 200M Chipset with a low-end of the line X300 graphic card. This chipset is being embraced by HP (the main guy, since it is in partnership with ATI in this venture), followed by Lenovo (u know, the sell-out/outsourced guru ibm?), Toshiba etc...

my little bro has an AMILO A3667G AMD Turion 64 ML37 . it is very good. I m impressed by it. It is quite cool for a 17" lappy comparing to the M675 line.

128MB X300 SMA Graphics

I saw this on one laptop I was considering, would this be dedicated graphics memory? Would it run decent games on low settings?

here is the context that it is in.

SMA Architecture is a way of saying "shared graphic memory". But the X200 chipset is a good one to compensate (sort of) the non-dedicated graphic card. I saw CoD and AE2 being played on this set-up before with no issue. But you need at to add at least another 256MB to the system. Nice price for a small screen lappy.

if this game can play sims 2, CS source, FF online etc... this should be fine for my bro... so u guys think this can handle BF2 on low settings?
