Ok to install MS Java VM on my 9300/XP Pro?

I need to install Visual Basic 6 on my recently purchased lappy, but the setup installer is complaining that the Microsoft Java VM is not installed.

I've downloaded the latest J2SE runtime, but the VB6 installer still doesn't like it (and wants the MS VM).

Is it ok to install the MS Java VM on my XP Pro? Or will it "break" something? Where would I get it from seeing as MS doesn't distribute it anymore?

Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, just an extra "plug-in" required to run Visual Basic 6. I needed it for installing some tools that "emulate" phone system architectures on my computer.

Hi makemedie. Have you installed VB6 on your 9300? Is it ok to install the MS JVM that comes with the VS6 (VB6) CD, or wouldn't that be the latest version?

I'm just a bit cautious of wrecking my XP Pro installation.

Makemedie, what version of the MS JVM do you have installed? Is it 3810?

You can check by going to a command prompt and typing "jview".

Are you running XP Pro?

In any case, it doesn't hurt your machine in any way to have it installed.
