Dell warranty will cover a stripped screw, right?

I had a tech come out to replace my dvd burner and they replaced my palm rest as well. The tech stripped a hinge screw when he put it back in.

Well, when I went to take it apart, found the screw stripped. Will Dell warranty cover this issue?

I have heard they did, but wanted to verify.
Or maybe give me some ideas on how to get it out

what do they do to get the stripped screws out anyway?

very small special drill bit.

Another way to do it (slightly wasteful) is to take a small allen wrench that will fit in the screw head (they are cheap), put some red loc-tite on it and just sacrifice the allen wrench to take the screw out when the loc-tite binds the allen wrench to the screw.

I guess if you really wanted to keep the allen wrench you could just cut the screw off of the allen wrench after.

Edit still doesn't seem to work...

its called a new palm rest assembly and a drill bit

all you have to do is use a drill bit that is slightly smaller than the head of the screw

Materials like loc tite or gorilla glue have a very low capactity to withstand bending at low temperatures where they become more brittle. If you just froze the allan wrench and then took a pair of pliers to the screw it would just break right off. The loc tite would be so brittle you could break it right off if you left it in the freezer for a few hours.

Interesting, that knowledge will probably prove useful in the future. Thanks!

I usually end up having to grind a slot in the head of the screw with a dremel tool and fiberglass reinforced cut-off disc when I encounter a stripped out screw.....I don't like to do this, and do it ONLY as an absolute LAST resort.

I don't know though, Dell seems to use some real freaky phillips sizes. I've used all manner of screwdrivers, from Craftsman to Snap-on to Klein and just about every one of them can slip on a screw. It surprised me with the Kleins, Klein oversizes their bits on purpose. I reckon if a second tech can't get the screw out it'll probably get sent in for repair.
