Everything you need to know about your 9750...

Hello,

For a while now, in preperation for my purchase of the 9750 (Soon... oh so soon), I've been scouring these boards regularly to find out information on what I can expect to go wrong right away, how to fix it, what I can expect to go wrong many moons down the road, etc etc so on and so forth.

One thing I'll say is that these boards have a huge wealth of information ( and helpful people ), and so it made my choice of machine much easier.

The only problem is... the wealth of this great info is spread so far apart accross disparate threads over the few forums.

Wouldn't it be nice if people could collect all their knowledge / experience / frustration / hatred ... (you get the idea) into one large catch-all that can serve to not only diagnose many first-time problems/concerns, but also act as an "Index" to other threads on similiar problems?

I'd like to think so

My initial response to this thread will be my contribution to this, with more to come after I order and use my grand new toy for a little while. But I thought I'd get the ball rolling now.

I'd like for anyone who reads this, that has some information they can chime in with, to contribute by either posting some additional threads for the "Index", or simply some advice on common problems first time users ( to both the laptop itself and for first time problems encountered on popular games / applications / drivers / etc ) are bound to run into, so that the info is all bundled up togethor. Seeing as how I don't even own the laptop (yet...), I'm thinking some of the people who already have it can contribute more to that part.

Thankyou and I hope this helps

Things that would be nice to see here...

A list of the FN+F# keys and what they do

Advice on heat and how to keep it down

Advice on keeping the unit clean ( Two-Parter : Outside and Intakes/Inside)

Advice on carrying cases (I know the Booq Bags are popular, theyve been recommended to me before)

Advice for maximizing performance of the popular games (maxing out your graphic quality at the sacrifice of "safety")

Advice for maximizing "safety" of the popular games (ensuring as few BSODs / glitches as possible at the sacrifice of quality)

General advice for peripherals and this laptop

And... Anything else people would like to contribute

Thankyou

An outstanding list and resource. And it appears to refer only to threads on this forum. There are several other forums with similarly interesting and informative threads on the 9750 and other Sager products and Sager generally. But I'm bookmarking this one. Thanks!

Yes it would be nice, and was even nicer of you to do it.. nice job..
and I hope we will be welcoming you to the list of 9750 owners soon, the machine is a monster and the screen will make your eyes bleed(because it is too beautiful for the human eye to handle)

No Problem

Glad to help out, will be even gladder when I finally order my laptop (The fiscal hell of being an adult... Oh it will be mine so soon hopefully).

Once it arrives I'll try filling in some more information, such as the FN + F# keys, and such. I'm constantly looking around at bags and laptop coolers now, so I should have a few things to add to the list.

According to AW and the Aurora 7700, there is one last FN:

FN-F1 : Audio boost
Quote:
9. Use the [Fn] + [F1] key combination (by pressing both the [Fn] key and the [F1] key at the same time) to enable the audio hardware boost that will increase the volume of the built-in speakers and the subwoofer.

Nor for me.

I wonder if that's an Alienware specific BIOS ...
