Hi all

I am about to order myself an XPS, I nearly ordered it in December but backed out, now I work for Dell related area, but I have no knowledge about
their products ect and that the suposit M1710 that is comming, any knowlege when it will be in the UK, I saw it on the French Dell site. Now the questions - will it be worth the wait, When the 1710 comes out do you think the 170 price will drop and will the performance go up alot with the new m1710 lappy and do you need the dual core performance and 7900gtx really?

Can some of you xps owners also tell me how futureproof is the m170
with current and future games

Thanks for your wisdom

If you play the waiting game with computers you could be waiting awhile. Sure the Core Duo would be nice, but if you waiting for that why not wait for Merom (sp?) with better performace, as for the 7900, is it DX10? I don't think it is, so there is something else you could wait for.

Pick a system you like at a fair price and go for it.

(my xps plays oblivion fine btw)

i think it all depends on your budget and how long you wish to wait for your gaming rig, personaly, i chose to get one asap since they were at a nice price and that i was also hoping the 7900GTX would fit in the XPS M 170

if it does then i'll be set for a few years IMO
and if it doesnt, well i'm still good for a year or 2 without even thinking of replacing my lappy

hope this helped a bit!

thanks m8 i think it did, but unfortunately the price of the xps in ireland is stll like 2600euro and there is not even the 7800 card option at the moment, if I can get the other one from germany france for 2500 i might aswell wait for it i have mates in germany.

again do you think this new xps will be alot faster, and also I ave seen some vendors on ebay selling the m170 for 2000 euros and pretty well
spect, can i trust them if they are pwersellers and will the us warrenty apply in ireland

this is realy confusing i guess there will always be something better.

thanks again

The geforce 6800 has been around for two years now and still offers very good performance. Take oblivion, I have a 6800 go overclocked and I can play oblivion at 1280x720 with 4xAA and bloom lighting. Its not like I play at a rock solid 60 fps, but does it rarely did below 25-30 fps. In the coming years I might have to bring down my resolution to 1024x768 but it will still be playable. I've even read some press reports that DX10 will increase performance by 4x with more calculations per gpu cycle.
