G1 Gets Hot! New Prescott monday.. Prices Dropping!

Just played CoD for about 50 minutes and boy does that left hand area get hot!
Any of you G1 or F2 guys notice this? Could it be from the 7200rpm HD?

Still not sure if I'm going to keep this bad boy? I may swap it out for an F2 or Cyberpower Centrino. Could use the lighter weight and battery life. And it seems like the F2's keep up much better than I assumed.. (or than ABS lets on) I called about the F2 and he put me right into the G1.. Hmm?

I also heard that Intel's dropping prices on Monday w/ the release of the new P4 Chip Prescott. Anyone know about the new Centrino chips release?

CoD plays hot on G1

You aren't imagining it. CoD must really be taxing the unit, 'cause that left side gets extremely warm. To be honest, I've not noticed any other application causing that extreme heat. I played for about 1 1/2 hours tonight and it really heated up. Doubt if that's real unusual for a notebook playing CoD, but can't say for sure.

F2 - G1

This I do know about these 2 products. ABS has been selling the F2 for months. In fact, I did a google search on gaming laptop reviews when I first decided to buy and the ABS was one of the 5 companies recommended to buy "gaming" notebooks from. This was done by some online computer mag, but I can't remember which one. Believe the article was probably a couple months old by the time I read it. They mentioned the Sager line, AW of course, the Gateway M105, and the F2. The F2 was highly regarded in the article as ABS's "gaming" machine, so I headed over to ABS's site already planning on buying it 'cause I knew the AW was just blatantly over-priced..didn't really want a Gateway (I've just heard to many complaints from ppl I know who've bought them), and had checked the Sager line and thought them a little bit higher than what I wanted to shell out. Anyway, I found the Abs site and read all about the F2. It sounded perfect. I would have purchased on the spot, but this was a Sunday night and I really wanted to do a phone order. Started phoning the next morning at 8:00 Illinois time and realized I was dealing with a West-Coast business and would have to wait a couple hours.

While I was waiting I decided to go read about the F2 again (you know how you get when you're getting ready to lay down a big chunk of change on a new box..you just find yourself reading the specs over and over). Well, sometime in between me hitting their web-site Sunday and browsing it again Monday ABS had placed the Mayhem G1 on their site advertising it as their "gaming" system. It looked pretty damn nice also, and actually had more power so I was instantly torn. When I was finally able to reach ABS sales at about 10:30 Central I told the lady I spoke with my dilemma. She recommended the G1. Said it was the better of the 2 systems. "Better", obviously, is a pretty ambiguous adjective for sure. But it didn't really take much to influence my decision 'cause I knew I was gonna get one of the 2. Her recommendation is why I got the G1. So, the point of this whole dissertation is ABS does seem to be heavily promoting the G1. What their rationale is, I couldn't tell ya.

Well, from what I know of my F2, it's highly unlikely that a high RPM HDD would cause the palm rest to get hot - the hard drive is located right around the center of the palm rest, so if anything the trackpad gets hot. I played around an hour of NFS Underground w/ no problems myself.

I heard Intel will drop prices on Centrino processors...by a few bucks. I don't think we can expect much in terms of price breaks for the Centrino processors until Dothan comes out, and even if Intel does make a decent price drop, it may take a while for that to filter to vendors and resellers...
