What can I do with Bluetooth?

Would it be worth it for me to get bluetooth?
One thing you can do with bluetooth is add periphrials... I have a logictech BT mouse that I use, no USB dongle is required. There are also keyboards available.

I also have a couple BT phones... I can transfer data to and from the phones, or use the phone as a modem if I want.

Here's a list of bluetooth products...

Yes you can. You can also use your Razor headphones (if you own one) to play FPS games, eg. CS: Source (mono output only).

Actually depends on who his service provider is. If it's Verizon, they have disabled the OBEX profile on the phone, and you can't transfer files... (You CAN, but you have to hack your phone) I know you can easily transfer files with Cingular.

Bluetooth is also a great way to Sync your PDA. I have a Dell Axim v50 and that's how I get updates back and forth.

I'm probably going to be getting a PDA soon. I guess I'll have to get a bluetooth card.

This is not always true. My Verizon RAZR V3C paired with my XPS Gen2 and I can upload/download files to/from the phone. Phone is stock/ no hacks.

bluetooth imo = nearly useless

especially when a majority of the devices will work over wifi and ip.

A wireless mouse is handy, despite what they say. It takes quite a bit of time and hassle to plug and use a wired mouse.

You can also connect to Internet trough a phone, which is the most useful use for it in my opinion. No need for internal cards or antennas or anything.

The version 3 of firmware for the phone disables this. If you have 2 (as I do), it works. However, you also have the battery indicator sometimes dropping to zero, as well as the inability to vibrate and ring simultaneously.

Also works beautifully with my RAZR V3x

No "battery indicator" issues here. No big need for the vibrate and ring feature either. And as far as I know, ver 3 firmware upgrade is optional. Anyway, the point of my previous post was that the sweeping/blanket statement that "ALL" verizon phones have "disabled" file transfer profile in bluetooth is not true. "MOST" perhaps, but not all.

I'm not sure what you're implying here. But bluetooth was never intended to replace or compete with wifi. Bluetooth is meant for low power (for minimal battery consumption), low bandwidth (but enough for wireless keyboards, mice, headsets, etc.) and short range (mostly within 30 feet, although there are a few with a 100-foot or so "claimed" range) accessories.
"Majority" huh? Good luck in finding "wifi" keyboards, mice, headsets, gps receivers etc. And if you do find any, expect to recharge/replace the batteries every few hours instead of days or even weeks. Bottomline, it ain't "nearly useless".

You're correct that updating the firmware is optional. My point was that it's a mistake that it works on the Razr. VZW goofed. Those with ver 3 of the firmware can't get it to work w/o a hack. Those of us with ver 2 have it working, but shouldn't update it to ver 3 or we'll lose it.

VZW doesn't intentionally provide Bluetooth file transfer capability on their phones.

I have my desktop wirelessly paired with my XPS Gen2 which is running the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack Version 4.00.11(D).

The services I have enabled on the desktop and XPS2 are File Transfer, Imaging, Serial Port, and Object Push.

I can send any type file over Bluetooth from the XPS2 to the desktop.

I can send any type file over Bluetooth from the desktop to the XPS2, except image files (.jpg or .bmp).

When I try to send image files to the XPS2, the "Copying..." screen appears, but the "Opening FTP connection" screen does not. Then the indicated error is always:

"Error establishing connection (OBEX_RSP_NOT_ACCEPTABLE)"

RTFM/Google is no help. How can I enable image transfer from the desktop to the XPS2 Toshiba Bluetooth Stack?
