I guess you'd call me monetarily challenged, heh. Suffice it to say that I havent got enoguh money to justify the 2.0 ghz MacBook (with 256mb v-ram) unless I get a big boost.

So could some friendly person (or people) post 3d Mark scores for the MacBook of both type, both 2.0ghz and 1.83 ghz, and make it clear which it which.

Thankee.

i would just get the 1.83...

hehe.. I'm curious about the same thing..

I think the 2.0Ghz was getting 3dmark05 scores of around 3000, not sure about the 1.83Ghz though

The 1.83 is not likely to get the same type of scores, as the video is 128MB rather than 256MB.

I'm aware of that, which is my reason along with proc. for asking. I dont think it will make a huge difference, apart from using very big textures.

the bench marks I have seen show the 128mb X1600 getting aroung 2500 in 3dmark 05 and the 256mb version is getting like 3300-3500 or so

The x1600 in the Intel PowerBooks are intentionally underclocked. There is a windows utility that will allow you to increase the clock speed to those intended by ATI.

Can it handle WOW?

Im interested in this also. My GF is looking for a notebook and we want something around 1k that can play WOW. Not sure if anyone has had a chance to try it out yet. Id really like to know how it compares to my powerbook g4 1.5ghz with 1.25 gigs of ram.

remember these come with GMA 950 on-board which should run WoW, but I would not recomend now that the X1400 outs. Many 15.4 that have a X1400 and core Duo.

I can't stress it enough, if you want it to play WoW at a decent playable frame rate (especially if you raid at lvl 60) get it with a dedicated graphics card. A core duo or Pentium M 1.6 or better would run WoW fine but you'll really need the graphics power whether its a Mac or PC. My dell with "intel extreme graphics" can load up wow and run it fine. Its just lagged like crazy anywhere where there is more than say 5 people/npc's/mobs. I get 10-12fps max just standing around.

If your budget is around 1k, I'd look at refurb Dell's, like the 9300 or 9400s. They're desktop replacement size but they come with decent specs for a low price.

Me too. I am trying to decide between 12.1 G4 and this MacBook for the office new laptop.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

macbook, hands down.

go with the basic 1.83, and add some ram

This thread is a bit confusing. 3DMark 05 scores of 2000-3000 are for the MacBook Pro. For the MacBooks with integrated grahics cards, I believe the scores are in the 200-300 range. I haven't bothered to run a benchmark on my 1.83 MacBook, but you can find some if you google.

Regarding the differences between 1.83GHz and 2.0GHz CPUs, the differences are slight...check out www.barefeats.com for benchies (on dialup at the moment, so takes too long to get a direct link).

The integrated graphics in the MacBook will run games surprisingly well...many people have reported success with WoW, and I can run Guild Wars comfortably. BUT, if gaming is a primary concern - and you still want a Mac - you're better off with the MacBook Pro line. Best at this time is the 17", because the X1600 GPU is not underclocked. But, the x1600 in the 15" will still give acceptable results (and can be overclocked if so desired).

what res does it run at? last i checked, UT2004 didn't have widescreen support, so i'm just curious how it gets rendered.
