AMD or Celeron?

Hi,

I am undecided between the following
1.Acer TravelMate 1353FLC Athlon 2.4 and
2.243fxc smaller screen celeron 2.5

My main uses ar watching DVD movies, bit of photoediting internet and e-mail.

Any suggestions which processor would be better?

My suggestion is the AMD, cause the Celeron is a crippled down Pentium.

yeah, 128KB of cache in the Celeron isn't a lot :[

Did they not do a comparison test between Intel's Celeron and AMD's Athlon XP and also some Duron's since price wise they are all close to each other ?? I remember reading that in ALL the tests the Athlon's kicked Celeron's so much it was a wonder why people would by Celeron's instead of Athlon CPU that is just as good or sometimes better than a regular Pentium 4, anyone have that link ???

Yep, the Athlon XP-M is way better than a Celeron for the same price. I think it was Anandtech that did a comparison between Celerons and Durons (and Athlons), if I remember correctly the 1.7GHZ Celeron was about as fast as a 1.3GHZ Duron. AthlonXP y comparable to P4 and a lot faster than a Celeron.

BTW I own a 2500+ laptop and for DVDs and Office apps it's really fast, probably for games too when combined with a nice videocard.

Here is the link that will show you that AMD is just as cheap as the Intel Celeron but it is MUCH faster and BETTER than it:

It just makes me wonder that all these people that are so misinformed with the Intel hype that for the same money as a Celeron they can get a AMD cpu computer or laptop that will outperform it in every way, infact will also outperform the regular Pentium 4 too in most tests.

That's the article I meant, but it is more like a 2.6GHZ=1.6GHZ Duron, so no contest between celeron and Athlon XP-M.
In short Celerons suck for desktops and notebooks, and for the same price you can get a better computer if you stay away from the Celeron.
