Compaq Presario 2100 RAM Help

Hi everyone, new here I have a Compaq Presario 2100 laptop, mainboard = Hewlett-Packard 0024 PQ1A79
Bus Clock: 133 megahertz
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies Ltd. KAM1.44 06/23/200392
Processor: 1.85 gigahertz AMD Athlon XP
Current RAM = 256Mb + 512Mb

My question is, does anyone know what capacity of memory my machine takes as I have just purchased two 1Gb DDR RAM Modules and when installed my machine just turns on and off 4-5 times then turns on and does nothing at all. Seems like they are not compatible but I would like to know why? The modules I am trying to use are 1Gb PC2700 DDR SODIMM 200 pin 333MHz.

Anyhelp would be very helpful.

All sorted out now, my laptops memory capacity is only 1gb of ram 2x 512Mb modules looks like im buying a new laptop then.
