with something like the spyder vision or something similar. I am looking at getting some monitor calibration and just wondering if anyone has had any luck with a particular brand.

I am using the Spyder 2. Works fine, and, after letting it do its thing for about 15 minutes or so (during which it cycles through a number of intensity levels for all your primary colors, plus a set of grayscale levels), you end up with a truly calibrated screen...

I think I ordered it directly from their website, it was the package with the sensor and their basic software; set me back $199 or thereabouts.

You can use it for LCDs or CRTs attached to a PC. What it does is create a precise color profile for Windows XP to be loaded into the graphics card at login. So, you cannot use this for any stand-alone TV set, but it should work for calibration of any screen that is attached to a Windows PC. However, they only specifically advertise this for use with either LCDs or CRTs.

I use Spyder 2 also, works great on my LCD and CRT.

I use the GretagMcbeth Eyeone version 1. There's a version 2 out now. Nothing beats a hardware calibrated screen. Used it on all my desktop LCD's as well (5 of them). Works on both CRT and LCDs. The Spyder TV looks interesting, it can calibrate televisions, though I don't know if you can also use it for LCD's.
