Kbuntu/SuSE/Fedora... no luck with any on the Acer 5672

Primarily the problem is the fact that there are no drivers for the X1400 video card from ATI.

Kubuntu fails to boot to begin with. Fedora installs, but the VESA driven resolution won't go past 1024x768 (I need 1280x800). SuSE, works on, but the resolution doesn't go any higher than 800x600 no matter what I try (even the manual editing of xorg.conf).

I see that some people wiht the 5672 (any other x1000 series video owners?) managed to use it. Is it because you managed to fix it somehow? Or are you using a lower resolution?

abf, help me out here as well

I am trying so hard to make that linux switch (the new KDE looks so nice too), but all these technical limitations make it so hard.

who says there is no driver for your card?

your X1400 is well supported by ati driver

For the x1600 that has not been my experience using the proprietary ATI drivers. But then I haven't tried in about a month.

Just when I spout off, I stand to be corrected. ATI released a new version (8.24.8) of its Linux drivers this afternoon, and they're supposed to support the X1* family of mobile cards. Whah-hoo! Give Linux another try on the 8204 this weekend.

Checked just moments ago! It's official, the X1000 series is supported at last! Going to install them now, will report back ASAP.

i can confirm that gentoo works on the 5672... i don't have everything working yet, but the new ati drivers do indeed work for me.

Just finished installing!

I can confirm the new drivers work (and work well!!!) on Fedora (SuSE 10.0 as well).
