has anyone gotten an x1400 to work yet?

I have absolutely no idea how to code anything, so I don't think I can contribute much more. Are there any coders out there that are looking for something to do??

I would really like to know if there has been any progress made with the bios hack as well. I'd like to run Oblivion at some semi-decent settings on my lappy.

Does anyone know any other laptop forums etc. where they might be looking to solve the same issue? Are there any good bios mod forums or anything we could post at telling them what we're trying to do?

I'm sure someone out there could have the bios hacked and up for us to d/l in less than a day.

I found this thread started on dell's site: click
Doesn't seem that promising, but at least others are taking a look at it...

Well, unlike the topic in the Dell forums, the people here tried putting it in, but the BIOS didn't detect it, so there was no display. I am sure it IS possible for it to work correctly if there was a BIOS revision to include the ATI X1400 card for the 6000d.
are there any Dell Centrino laptops that use the same ATI X1300 or X1400 that is in the e1505?. because if that's the case, then maybe we could flash the bios with that other laptop? because really the only difference in anything would be the video card, right?

it'd be similar to this thread where they took a 9300 and flashed it with an XPS2's bios so that it could use the 7800

http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=113866

or maybe get the bigger power brick? maybe that's why it didn't boot up at all?

just my input, throwing around ideas.
Nope, there are no Centrino systems that use the x1400, so it's going to have to be a custom BIOS hack. Great idea, but doesn't exist unfortunately.

hmm... not having any centrino notebooks with the x1400 might pose quite a problem as far as bios editing goes...

maybe, i hope ::crosses fingers::, it's just a power consumption issue. does anyone know how much power the x300 draws and how much the x1400 draws?

EDIT: So i chatted with Dell(worthless) and got a little information, the 6000d uses the 65 watt power supply, while "depending on the specifications" the E1505 uses a 90 watt power supply. but that's about all the good info i got out of them

Camride, since you have both, are the output DC voltages on the power bricks the same for the 2? or are they different?
My E1505 uses a 65W power supply, and i have the x1400.
Guys give it time, the e1505 is a fairly new notebook.
i know it's new, and i know it probably can be done eventually.
and as simple as my ideas are, i'm still throwing them out there trying to be a part of the solution, not just begging other people to do it.

ya know?

brainstorming is all i'm doing.

Yeah man, I kinda figured that out by reading this thread from the start, as well as the one I posted. I have no idea how to code bios, so I thought I could try and help another way, by showing other places this is being discussed. I wasn't saying "check out my solution to the problem", just "hey, look, these people have the same idea"....

wtf wasnt one of the selling points for having pcie on the 6000 the ability to upgrade in the future? f***in dell needs to get their shet together and give us what we want. how hard is it to compile a compatible bios for those crazy programmers they have there anyway? we should start a petition or something cause this x300 aint cutting it for me.
qqqNo E1505 uses a 90w adapter, that rep was lying out his ass. There is no reason to use a 90w power brick on the E1505, it'll never use that much wattage. Anyway, I think the only reason it didn't actually come up when I put the x1400 in is because the bios is too old and it doesn't know how to communicate with the x1400. It's odd because the x1400 is basically on the same pcb as the x300, it's just got different internals. But, because they're so similar I am sure we will get this working eventually. But like i mentioned before, I won't be any help until the middle of June because of my wedding.

We should start contacting Dell about getting an updated BIOS for the I6000 though because there is absolutely no reason for I6000 owners not to be able to upgrade to the x1400. It fits, it's a very similar card and I'm pretty sure they use the same amount of power as the x1400 is based off the x300. We should all start contacting Dell and requesting to be able to upgrade to the x1400. If enough of us hassle Dell maybe they'll listen. Besides, they stand to gain from this anyway, they'd sell a bunch of spare x1400's if they made that bios revision.

Here's another small discussion on our lovely topic:

talking to dell service reps won't get us anywhere, they know nothing and won't relay the info to people that DO know how to make this happen...sucks, because i'm sure to the programmers at dell... this wouldn't be such a hard task at all.

I agree about contacting dell abput an updated bios. I'm just wondering how many people it would take for them to start to listen...

I would be willing to contact Dell as well about the issue. I actually started a forum on Dell's website trying to get the to notice but I had no luck. It never hurts to try though!
