Im Really Confused about Reformatting

I want to do it when I get my E1505 but theres so many arguments to it. Will this work, will that break, you dont need that anyways, this or that, no you need the disk to fix it, or no you can just download the fix.

Im really confused.

1. If I just reformat my whole HD and leave it at one partition and then download the Media Direct Fix will it fix media direct and create a partition for it?

2. Is the restore partition needed at all?

Why would the format not work? Why would u break something while formatting?

Whether or not u need it is a legit question, but those...

All u need to do is format the partitions that are not the dell restore, and thats it. Some pple might make a separate partition for the os, and another for data, but thats up to u.

so you can select which partition to format?

For example I would like to delete the restore partiton along with the windows partition to get rid of all the junk. Then I would just reinstalll windows, without the restore partition which seems worthless to me.

Right?

Yup, when u delete partitions, they all become one big unpartitioned hunk of HD space. Then u can format that one to ur liking.

Re: the Media Direct stuff

It's really easy, in fact I did it myself last night!

If you are not replacing the HDD shipped with the PC then you cannot get rid of the MD partition anyway, it is hidden from you!

Delete the 3 partitions the machine comes with and create what you would like. Reinstall XP and all the drivers (including DELL CHIPSET) and then boot with the driver CD that came with your PC. Select Q to go to the command prompt. From the command prompt type CD MD2 and hit [Enter] then type REPAIR and hit [Enter]... when it says "Done", you are done! Shut down the PC via the power button and then press the Media Direct button..........................
