After asking some questions and getting helpful answers and viewing the extensive feedback on this forum, I ordered the 8600 1.4, OUTRAGEOUS DEAL advertised in a Dell mailing I received:WSGA (hope I don't get the Hitachi), 512MB ram 2 dimms, 32MB NVIDIA 5200 card, 40GB HD 4200rpm, 65 watt adapter, no floppy, windows xp, 24X combo dvd/cd-rw, Dell truemobile 1300 lan 802.11b/g, air bay weight saver module, Dell jukebox, primary and secondary battery, Dell photo album, WordPerfect productivity pack, Money 2004, TurboTax 2003, 1 year mail-in warranty.

The $200 coupon mentioned in the forum didn't work online so I called and the salesperson got approval from her supervisor (really should not have been accepted because it was for an affinity purchase-when you click through from another site) so that with the $300 rebate I got $500 off so that I'm paying $1253 with free shipping and no tax. Seems like a pretty good deal, what do you think?

Thanks again to all of you for your cogent questions and insightful answers.
