My Dell D820 Is In Testing! - Page 4

post #61 of 68
Re: 26 pounds...
Likely Dell put 12 kilos when they made the label, and the shipping system converted it to 26 pounds.

Ordered my D820 friday night and it's already in boxing. I hope it ships this week. I'm having Dell ship the Laptop to me DHL 2nd day with Hold for Pickup (Don't trust UPS, and I'm at DHL every morning picking up parts)

Congrats! I hope that you are as happy with your new D820 as I am with mine!

Ack! You guys are driving me nuts! lol. I am about to pull the trigger on a 820 myself.

I will be using it for business and and play. I am quite interested on how well F.E.A.R. does on it. If FEAR runs halfway decent, it will play anything I play. Halo, World of Warcraft, Farcry...

Please let us know how it does!!

Dell's shipping my notebook on my DHL account and they declared the weight as 11 pounds when they created the waybill. Which is actually surprising considering a notebook's in the box.

tman,
please tell us how your 512MB Nvidia Quadro loaded Dell Latitude D820 runs FEAR? Knowing this is preventing me from pulling the trigger on this laptop. How does your D820 compare to the Dell XPS M1210 in terms of gameplay ability? (I saw videos of the XPS M1210 playing FEAR quite smoothly)

Its good to see someone actually searching through old posts to try and find answers.
I have an M65 with Quadro FX350m,which has the same performance under D3D as the quadro120m in games and mine plays Fear fine at 800x600 with the following settings
effects=max
model decals=off
water res=max
res+display=max
volumetric lights=off
fsaa=off
light detail=max
shadows=off
soft shadows=off
anistropic=x2
texture res=max
shaders=max

Average frame rate 42 FPS
Can also play at 1024x768 but have to turn most things to minimum or off for average frame rates of 32,Fear is one of those games that if your limited in power,looks better at lower res with higher settings than at higher res with everything turned down.
I was going to try higher res than 1024x768 but the current driver I am using won't allow higher than this even in program files/configuration.
I did try enabling shadows at medium and that took the average to 26 and also soft shadows avg 32,so those 2 settings hammer averages for not much in the way of looks IMO.
I would expect XPS1210 to be fractionally better [maybe 1 or 2 fps,not worthwhile]given the fact it has better GDDR3 video memory than the DDR2 of the D820/M65,someone who has an XPS might be able to compare to the above and bearing in mind I am using certified drivers at the moment instead of Laptopvideo2go ones,and I did the above tests with wifi and internet explorer running,so could probably get more performance.
I hope this helps you out.

Never got around to running the fear demo, reformatted and lost the file, dont feel like downloading again, especially since gerryjosen did it already.

I do play Halo, and i lowered the settings probably more than i should have, but at 1920*1200 resolution and medium to medium/high settings it plays flawlessly, as well as run deadaim, itunes, opera browser, mozilla thunderbird zonealarm, avg, and my wireless connection. Core Duo is nice
