Unfortunately... This may be a sad day for a few... - Page 3

I agree wholeheartedly with that ^ . Depression is terrible. I was depressed for a few years myself. During the height I decided to end it all by driving my car into a wall on the highway at 90mph.

Nothing happened. I blacked out, no cuts, bruses or anything. Just neck pain. I learned after that it wasn't worth it. Life sucks, but that is something that if you don't get over - it won't get any better. Few years after that it was better, but I was still depressed. Thought about dying (the fact that I will die eventually) and that was very depressing.

Now, I rarely think about that or dream about it. I don't get depressed anymore unless its a situation regarding bills or lots of stress. I am alot happier about myself and everything else. A pretty big change for me.

I would take a loss of a limb over depression any day!

Time to put those computer skills to use:

Join the airforce.

They can provide you with the tools for success later down the road. Not to mention money for school down the road.

hahaha good one DJB503. but really go to college. i have a friend who makes game hacks and he programs in c++, native, d3d, delphi, and visual basic. he gets paid some decent money for that crap. u can't live on it but u can upgrade your computer whenever u want. u just need to find some kind of small programming gig to do. start making some stuff other than drivers.

just my 2 cents

p.s. that doesn't mean stop making my drivers.

Simple. I'm the GFT. 'Nuff said ..."

Tony, you are dealing with a once-young guy who has 26 and 18 year old sons. What do you mean by GFT?

About depression ... take it seriously. Get help. Take it from someone who got to see both of their parents die horrible deaths ... life is too short to spend one minute in depression.

Yes, I do want to go to college, but it requires money. Money I DON'T have. My family can't help me because of various reasons (my dad's divorce, etc.) and I'm not eligable for grants and whatnot because of my dad's income level. That leaves student loans. OK, yeah, I'm going to have to do that, but I'd rather be working and having some income before I start burying myself in debt, LOL. Thus the need for a job, which I'm working on.

And yes, GFT = GeForceTony, LOL.

But I woudln't call it a shot in the dark.

I just might be calling on you. My web site is giving me fits and my web designer dropped off the face of the earth. My computer skills are not within the web design world. If it helps get your computer back, well that might be another way to help you out.

I tried going to college at 17 as an art major and I messed it up royally. Didn't show up for class, depressed, family problems, you name it. Failed out, left my parents with a ton of debt..

7 years later, I'm back in school and not paying a dime. Once you hit 24, the gov't can't use your parents income to determine your financial aid anymore. I'm now a CS major at my local CC, and transferring out either this year or next. I'm one of the only CS majors in the NHS there (3.97 GPA), so I've been getting solicited by a ton of universities where I can finish off a BS, or even more if I feel up to it. Every letter I get wants to throw $10k a year at me just to get me to apply.

Anyway, the point of my story is - it's quite viable for some people to take some time off from school and work for awhile. I got a bit of a later start, but I don't think I would have gotten this far if I did it any earlier.

Well hey, if you wanna talk, send me a PM or something and we can try to work something out. I'm sure you probably wanna see some samples of my work, so I have 2 below. The first of which is the one I worked on for about a year to get perfect, and the second was my "learner". When I was taking the courses in High School I helped create the school's website, LOL.

Wow...it's pretty heartwarming to see so many complete strangers care and want to help you Tony. You sound like a really good kid and judging by the way you articulate yourself through this forum, you're going to be ok. Stress and depression are serious and hopefully you'll get the support you need from other family members and friends. We're all pulling for you!

The fact that you're only 18 is a blessing. If you were 30 and in the same situation, it'd be pretty damn sad. As the sayings go, the world is your oyster, you have your whole life ahead of you, blah blah blah. I get the impression that your potential is limitless, so I hope you pick something you want to do and go after it like a mofo.

As for people paying for drivers, you're right that most wouldn't. People expect that for free nowadays, but you'd probably make a fortune if you could release a set of drivers that improved performance on Oblivion Not sure there's much you could do though...the game needs a patch in a bad way.

Good luck to you kid...we all want to see you succeed!

Here's something to consider.. Set up a donation system for your drivers. Not only will it give you some money (I think you'd make quite a load), it would also get your dad off your back about being on your computers.
I agree a donation system would be a nice way to go. Help you finacially and will show what you do is worth while on your computer. I was lucky enough to have supporting parents when I was living with them in my computer habbits. Now I made a living out of it.

Someone made a joke about it but going Airforce or Navy (you get shot at a lot less)work on computers black boxes. When you get out finish school and get it paid for or Air National Guard and go straight to school and they pay all of it.

Ok so umm let me translate that. Do you mean:

Someone made a joke about it but going to the Airforce or Navy (you get a better shot at a lot less) to work on computers would be your best bet. When you get out of the Navy/Airforce and go to college the gov. will pay for it or you can join the national guard and the state will pay for college.

Hope that helps!!

Thank you for the corrections. I didn’t know we were required to write perfect sentences in this post. But with your superior skills (you get shot at a lot less) means people with rifles don’t get the opportunity to shoot at you as much as if you were in the infantry etc... I know that was very difficult to translate. I will be much more careful in the future when I post here so you don’t have to go through so much work fixing my statements. Oh and GFT after you get educated try to have more class than the people who feel the need to re-explain someone else’s thoughts.
jverhey, don't take it personally, but I couldn't figure out your first sentence either.

But either way, your point is a good one. The majority of people that end up on the front lines in the armed forces are those with, let's say, *less* to offer in terms of technical skills than what GFT has.

Well, there's MORE bad news... I tried talking my dad into letting me have my computers back so I could work on that website for ktme9300, and it was a no-go . I'm afraid the laptop smuggling will have to commence , LOL. He still refuses to let me have access to my computers, and I'm beginning to know what it's like to be addicted to something like crack, and no access to any, ROFL. So, I am STILL computer-less . Bummers.
