One of the best threads I've seen in a long time. Just ordered some Grado SR-60's based on it , they look ideal to squeeze in my bag as well. Even used one of the online retailers mentioned, the things will be here in 2 days... heh

Thanks,
Card

Too complicated to explain? Let me try...some sort of obsession with the 4000th post being one of importance?

(Come on, as soon as you get past 4000posts we won't know which one was your 4000th post. Or we will just pretend not to know to aggrevate you...hehe)

Good thread...

Buying the Grado 60s if you can possibly afford them is outstanding advice: they are comfortable, easy to drive, and sound superb (none better) for the $$$.

Also the comment about enjoying all your headphones was spot on... with the exception of real pieces of crap. I have Senn 100, 200 & 600 and Grado 60, 225, and RS2s and enjoy each and every one immensely at different times for different purposes. It's not like a lot of "audiophile" equipment where once you've heard the really good stuff everything else sounds like junk... you can have a half dozen pairs of cans & like each for a different reason.

A good headphone amp will make you LOVE your cans...

ummm...I may have to make an exception...I heard the RS-1 and the HD-650 and I simply cannot tolerate any lesser headphone

Luckily the SR-60's still sound great...

I am stunned by their sound quality in comparison with the bigger names and bigger prices!!

I use a Sony MDR CD3000 and Senn. 570 for listening to music on my computer and notebook.

Sony is great out of the box, Senn needs AMP.

My Sony is awesome. Its so good, I wear it to sleep!

How can you...its like having tits on your head

They are decent headphones...but definitely not worth the $400.00 something price tag..
If you are referring to my post, they are worth $400. Ask the numerous users on head-fi

They are big, though not terribly big or ugly.

I went to the SONY showroom last Wednesday and tried the R10. That was great too.

The R-10 is magic...$3000.00 of pure magic.

Thats not a bad price considering what some people spend on their Hi-Fi equipment. The R-10 is better than ANY speaker I have heard - and trust me...I have heard a few...

However my next post is a HeadSup on the next best thing since sliced bread!!

Another High End Headphone That Is A Blast!!!

I just got my new Audio Technica A900 closed headphones from www.audiocubes.com

So far I am pretty impressed...

http://www.audiocubes.com/product_in...980fa65a9e53e3

I have been putting them through my usual break-in routine which will last for another 100 hours. I will not touch them until this is finished...

I tried them on immediately and out of the box they sounded absolutely smashing!! Best of all I did not use an amp - straight out of the Rio Karma headphone socket!!

But of course...paired with my SACD player and high end amplifier - these sound pretty sweeeet!! Now my roommate doesnt complain anymore because they are closed headphones...

Do you want to see what my "other" "headphone" looks like? Yes it is an open headphone...yes it is a VERy open headphone...

The new addition to my family - ladies and gentlemen...presenting...the AKG K1000 !!!!

and finally...

I went through 1/2 a dozen headphones trying to find the right one. I'm not an audiophile. I was originally planning on spending less then 75.00 In the end I spent a little over double that, but I finally found a pair that I like.
I bought a pair of Sennheiser PXC-250's. These are a pair of just wonderful sounding and noise cancelling headphones. I am not the audiophile that gsferrari/gsminardi is, but I think he missed a bit by automatically poo-pooing noise cancellation. These are comfortable earpad style headphones. Without noise-cancellation they would still be a very nice pair of headphones. But with noise cancellation, I can go to my local starbucks and work on my laptop and hear next to nothing of the hustle and bustle that goes in a place like that. The world is a noisy place. Noise-cancellation greatly reduces that noise. Plus unlike earbuds, I can wear these all day without a problem. They also fold flat for easy storage. Came with a carry case and adapters for airlines, etc.
gsminardi, what do you think of the Sennheiser PXC250 headphones? I can get
them on sale for $250...

Are these better than the Grado SR-125?

Thx,

Steve

I checked out the headphone.com web site and looked at the Grado SR-60 as suggested. My question is: Do they cup the ear or lay flat on the ear? I have Senn HDI 380's and they are very uncomfortable. The ear piece is flat and after 20 minutes my ears hurt from wearing them.

They are not comparable to the grado-sr60 !!!

I dont recommend noise cancelling because you pay a lot for something that doesnt work very well. Better to spend on the etymotics or shure.

flat on the ears but the pads are soft and comfy...not as good as circumaural but its not too bad
post #160 of 674
What could you recommend with at least the sound quality of the SR-60 with the circumaural design?
