The Headphones Thread - Page 17

I use the headset mic combo made by sennheiser but those are pretty pricey and not necessarily better.

I havent really spent much time in this area and therefore dont have anything concrete to make comments on.

After lots of research into headphones I think I finally found the right ones for my tastes:
After seriously considering the Ultrasone 650, 700 or DJ1, I found Beyerdynamic 770s / 80 ohm version. They have powerful accurate bass, enough soundstage (giving a spacious feel to the sound), great build quality and they cost something like 150$
The bigger soundstage, bigger bass and better build quality are the reasons I chose them over the ultrasones. Although, from what I hear, the Ultrasones reproduce higher sounds better, are in general a bit more accurate and don't need so good amps to bring out the best in them.

I'm not saying that the 770s are better for everyone, I just think they suit my individual tastes better. And even this is just how I feel from the description others give. I need to try them myself to be sure.

Now I have to find a good external amp/soundcard combination for them that doesn't cost too much (I hear that the Bithead doesn't have enough juice to complement the beyers)! All the recommended amps seem to cost well over 300$ and all the cheap good soundcards aren't external. Now I need to do at least 2x more research! HORRORS!!!

It never ends!

BTW: I need to be VERY careful not to get into a vicious circle now that I joined head-fi. It seems even better than this forum for emptying your wallet

Oh, and I bought Sennheiser px-100s a week ago. They're really nice for portable use and I recommend them highly! Even after reading many good reviews about their sound quality and getting my hopes up, they surprised me by actually living up to the expectations.

They sound nice, feel nice, look nice enough and are very easy to tote around in your backpack thanks to the included carrying case, which is a bit bigger than a eyeglass case but not much.

Excellent value for 29 euros!

On a side note, I tried also Koss Portapros in the shop (Fnac in Milan) and didn't like them as much. The bass was stronger, but more "mushy", they didn't feel as comfortable and they cost 70 euros there anyway, which I find ridiculous! I wonder how many poor bastards buy them for that price..

Headphones w/mic?

I'm looking to buy a new headphone set but I would like a mic on it as well. I use various voice communication software while gaming with friends. Any sugggestions would be appriciated!

Get something cheap - Plantronics works well and ive used my set for 2 years now with no problems, lots of LAN party abuse and I even sat on it once

It is cheap, wired, sounds decent and the mic works well.

question here................ grado sr60's or grado sr80's ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Just read all 22 pages. From what I've been reading, the SR60 is better if you don't want to use money on an amp.

Selling some Senn HD 280 pros right now!!!

What are the best sub 100 USB headphones that support audio cutoff. eg, when you plug them in the soundcard is muted.
Does the open design of the Grado SR60s make them bad for noisy environments and make them annoying for people near you? I'm looking for something to isolate me from outside noises a bit.
the SR60s are very open. They do pretty well in noisy environments, but will annoy the crap out of anyone sitting in a quiet room with you. Most recommendations I've read for headphones under these conditions say that the in-ear canalphones like the ETYs or Shure perform best.

I really am not a fan of earbuds, if that's what you mean. They always seem to make my ears sore about about a half hour of use.

I have some relatively cheapo ~$30 Sony MDR-V250 headphones that I really like the sound of, but they are falling apart and are years old. I'm sure these are closed design.

What would you guys recommend? I want something comfortable, < $100, and something that is usuable with other people in a fairly quiet setting.
Well, if your serious about listening to music, most of the folks over at Head-Fi.org mention the ATH-A500 headphones as a good "closed" alternative to earbuds. You should be able to find a pair for around $100-$120. To be honest with you, I'm simply repeating what others have said, so maybe some more research on your part would be fruitful. Most of the folks at Head-Fi.org are pretty experienced with just about every headphone you can think of, so browse around there if you haven't already. Links below.

hi all,
just curious
since the HD497 and HD500 are closed priced
which would be a better choice? obviously HD500 is better based on the specificatino but i am curious on in terms of comfort, audio quality, does the extra cost justify HD500?
i am leaning toward 497 for their design

i'm also in the market for some headphones. my budget is at most $100, preferably a bit less. right now i have these crappy sony mdr-v250's that sound like utter crap. i really like a lot of base and would prefer to have only one wire instead of 2 (if that made sense).

thanks so much

You want :-

* BASS
* One sided Cable
* Price under $100.00

The only headphones that fit this category are the Sennheiser HD-515's but they are not exactly generous on the bottom end of the frequency spectrum.

um...

What are you willing to compromise on?
the one-sided cable isn't too important i guess... and i don't know if i really want a lot of bass, my current 'phones have practically none, so i just want more than i have now. something in between will probably suit me fine.

thanks!

Dont worry about the prices here. They can be found for a little less $$$ at other online retailers.

www.ttvj.com

www.audioadvisor.com

etc.

Lemme know if I can help further.

thanks!

In which case :-

Grado SR-60 + Flat Pads (www.ttvj.com) = $100.00

Koss PortaPro 2 = $40.00

Shure E2c (ear canal phone) = $65.00

more options now that you have "loosened" up on your requirements

Look at the earlier list for stuff that conforms closer to your original requirements

Cheers!
