Mobility Catalyst 6.4 Drivers are out

Thread Starter
you can get them here http://www.ati.com/online/mobilecatalyst/
Release note can be found here
https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206...bility_64.html
Still doesn's support the x1000 series
Does this mean that the STANDARD 6.4s are out too? I would rather go with them
post #3 of 25
I've installed the patched 6.4 drivers over the Acer-released 6.3.

3DMark06 was 2001 on ATi 6.3, 1998 on Acer 6.3 and 2008 on ATi 6.4.

One other interesting thing was that 1080p Quicktimes movies were very jerky with the Acer 6.3 drivers but perfectly smooth with either ATi release...

I'm very pleased with the new drivers. Raised my 05 mark up by 300 marks (stock core/mem). However if someone has the 8204 with the buzzing noise please run 3Dmark05 with ALL Feature tests and Batch Tests. OMG the sounds comming from my notebook when the square was rotating made my ears hurt.. It sounded like a Cat choking on a buggie

How do I install the new driver on my ferrari 4005?

Im getting the usual error msg. that i should go with the manufacturers driver.

I remember reading something about a little tool to run while instaling. Any1 got a link to that tool?

I must say, I am fairly disappointed with Acer's support. The Ferrari's do not deserve that, that's for sure. It's been a year since they last updated their ATI drivers (coz the official do not work for some reason). What kind of technological supremacy we are talking about when you simply cannot cover basic maintenance costs?

Now, we the ought to be proud Ferrari owners are actually forced to find workarounds on our own. That is pathetic.

qwert3k, I have been installing the mobility catalyst from ATI since I bought my Ferrari. The drivers work. You just need to download the drivers and not that checkup file.

Can anyone (once again, I know, sorry) give a brief description of how they got Catalyst 6.4 to install on an 8204 given that the X1000's aren't supported? I know the process has been posted a few (hundred) times, but I'm a details kind of guy and need to see them for this release...

Thanks!

You can follow the guide here: http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=142477

You just have to use the 6.4 file names instead of the 6.3 that are given. It's fairly logical (ie. instead of changing the paths to CX_30895, change them to CX_31959 etc...)

Download the desktop Radion 6.4 then download mobilemod and mod the XP driver (remember to change what mobile mod is searching for).
Go to Control Pannel
Then System
Then Hardware
Then Device manager
Then browse to display driver and click update
Then do the install from list or specific location
Don't search i will choose install option
Have Disk
Then browse to where the XP inf is saved
Then select the X1600 series.
And just click next etc then reboot.

Yep, it's kind of scary, actually... ;-)

would this driver be good or should I wait to get like the omega drivers??
3Dmark05 showed no real improvement with the new 6.4 driver. Also it still only supports 2 widescreen modes, so I'm going back to the Omega Driver yet again.

I second that!
And the conclusion must be that even though the Omega driver doesn't perform better than Catalyst or Acers driver, it is more useful when it comes to gaming and widescreen computers in general. It's really strange that Acer delivers a driver that only supports 2 widescreen modes?
does the dektop version of the driver performs better than the mobility one?
As I wrote, I have tested both drivers, and there seems to be no real improvement/difference between the desktop and mobile driver. It you use your laptop for gaming then install the Omega driver. The standard mobile and desktop driver only supports two different widescreen resolutions, so most games will only work with either 1024x620 or 1680x1050, where the Omega driver has a lot of different resolutions to choose from
