Here's a quick review: (Ratmyr's Format)

Order Process

Overall painless. I am from Puerto Rico so I decided the best way I could purchase this beast was via money wiring. The service representative walk me through the whole process and everything wen't quite smooth.

The Wait!! Oooh the wait!!

Well to be honest this is of course the hardest part. My last laptop was a Sager 8790 (which by the way was a great machine) and I got used to ordering and receiving everything within a week. Anyhows i decided that i wanted this rig no matter what, the painting feature had great influence of course . Overall i convinced myself to forget the laptop until there was at least a week left. When a month and a week passed i started to freak out, but i understood the the painting was the factor so i remained as cool as possible. Customer service was helpfull and always returned emails which maid me feel very confortable.

The Shipping

The laptop was sent on a friday to my dismay. The package was a 2 business day air so that meant, friday, the whole weekend, monday and tuesday. I was cracking up. On tuesday night the laptop finally arrived. The box was smaller than i though to my surprise. Everything was well packaged and the laptop came wrapped with what my girlfriend could described as a pillow case of the same material as those cloths one uses to wax a car (Niiiice!).

First Impression

All i could see was the unbelievable paint job. Phew! It blew my mind... you can still smell the paint... And the baby is a heavywieght! Huge! The only thing i noticed was that there was still a bit of wax or whatever they use to shine the machine, but no problem, used the pillow case they gave me and finished it off!!!

Display

The image was crispy clean, nice and shiny. Have not found a dead pixel yet and im sure i won't. Its exactly the same display as my deceased 8790 so i wasnt that blowned away by it.

Sound

This is the only bad thing i found. It sucks unbelievably. My 8790's sound was bad as well but better than the sound of the EX7. I produce music so of course im very demanding when it comes to sound. Even on headphones this sounds bad. I will need to purchase an audio interface eventually for my music production needs.

For the gamer in you...

This machine has not even hiccuped to anything I've thrown at it. I installed Fear and put everithing at maximun, everything!!! Anti-Aliasing Max,Anisotropic Filtering Max.... And this baby runs smooth and laughs at you... If you wan't to game this is the machine to get.

Overall performance

To give you an idea of how fast this machine is, I was installing Fear, installing Nero from the cd, playing music, browsing the internet, all at the same time! Fear and every other game i have are in images so i load them up using power iso virtually. This baby was asking for more! It is unbelievable. I oredered the machine without a hardisk cause i still had one from the 8790. This was the only bottleneck since it is an PATA 7200 60gb. But no biggy cause honestly, a bottleneck i could not really feel.

Another thing that i thought was crappy was what was written in the benchmark papers. The game they used to do benchmark was Quake III Arena WTF??? I mean maybe thats the most efficient way to test it but sounds kinda crappy to me with such an old game. Another thing to consider is the machine's size; its so big that it didnt fit in the bag that i used for my 8790. So I ended up having to buy a new bag for this baby.

All in all, im very happy with my purchase so far, this is a fantastic machine and the paint job well worth the wait.

Here are the pics, enjoy!!!

Hypersonic here finally!

Pillow cased laptop?

Top View, upside down im lazy!

Bottom View

From the Left side, it looks so purty!

Humble setup + Lappy

Front view again!

These pictures i took very quickly without giving them much thought so they are not so great. They are a bit on the dark side. They show you the idea and thats whats important. Hope you enjoy them. There are a couple of bloopers... tell me if you find one!

Cheers!

Click on the yellow box above the posting window, then copy and paste the picture's url. Click ok, then post.

Looking forward to seeing your new machine - the blue paint is nice.

Nice review and congrats on the arrival. As for pics - definitely would like to see them as well. Most people host them at imageshack and then add them to the post.

The EX7 is definitely something else and the model you have atleast has the 7800 as opposed to mine having the 6800…. so I can imagine how much faster it is with gaming!

Again, congrats!

Nice notebook! I hope you enjoy it.
That is the customary pillowcase that smooth-creations gives you.... somehow I have already managed to lose mine...
So sad T_T;

Well, have fun! It is very cute!

Hey.... don't knock the pillow case.

Actually, I think it is cool how Smooth is doing that. It wasn't the case with my first one, but with the EX7 it was. And it is really good when I carried it in the backpack for some scuff protection. But I didn't get one with my lid job.

Nice pics!

Thanks for the comments guys! I brought the machine to work today and everybody is stunned ! Everyone has to ask about it! The most akward question: how much it cost?

About the pillowcase well i love the detail... i have it next to me... it just feels great to shine the lappy... the paint is very smooth..

hehe, had the same reaction when I took my FX7 to work. alots of tongues dragging on the floor, until the price comes up, then so does the tongue. Then I tell them to pick up the beast. 12 lbs of lappy is not that easy to pick up when your used to a crappy dell.

congrats on the box and nice paint job.

hey! have any of you guys received the t-shirt, hat, pen from hypersonic? Im waiting for mine!

Did you post

A review in resellers or one of the others? It takes a few weeks but you didn't buy a Hype for a T-shirt, Hat and Pen I hope.

By the way I always wear my Hype shirt when going to the Mac store, or lurk near the Dell kiosks. So far no one has a clue what it is.

Should have a Hype touring convention in all the major malls, just set up a table to display all the rigs.
I have received mine - both times (EX7 and CX7). The shirts are not the correct size for me, but my wife and daughter do wear them (it is my wife's favorite lounging around shirt). But the hat is one of my favorite and I do wear it every where (even in avatars).

But it did take a couple weeks.

The big thing is - did you complete the registration from the link? You must do that so that they know you posted a review. There has been cases where individuals posted a review (for instance here) and assumed Hypersonic would see that. So if you haven't (not saying you didn't), make sure you do.

Soloman, no i didnt spend 3,500 for a free t-shirt and pen! Its a nice detail though. And yes i agree with you, people have no idea, hypersonic who? I think I'm the only person in Puerto Rico with a hypersonic!

Anyways, yes i registered of course, just wondering how it went. I will be proud to wear the shirt to LAN parties.

I want polo shirts next. Those days we dress down at work, I can wear them like others wear NetApps, Veritas and other vendors.

Hey!

Recieved the t-shirt, pen and hat. Ordered the t-shirt small thinking it was going to be the usual it-says-small-but-can-use-it-as-a-sheet size, but was wrong, i will have to give it to my girlfreind. The pen rocks, it has a very sturdy feel. I dont wear hats so ill keep it round the house just for the hell of it. Anyways, cool detail this stuff for just reviewing the laptop which i did without knowing of this.

The laptop is still running great with no problems whatsoever. Took it to a LAN party and everyone was amazed by the beast!!! two optical drives what the hell???

Hypersonic rocks!

Glad to hear everything arrived.

I agree with the shirts - they do tend to be a bit smaller than expected. But I too like the pen. I have two of them around the house (bought my first one with a hat when I got my first system). They write nice and definitely are sturdy.

Sucks that you won't be using the hat... its cool. I am going to end up buying another one in the near future because I am wearing mine out (I wear it everywhere).

Take care.

Congrats on the system darc81 !
From one of the pictures I assume that you do some music writing on your computers. Have you used the Hypersonic to do it and if so, how does it perform in heavy audio work ?
Thanx
