Here's a quick review: (Ratmyr's Format)
Order Process
Overall painless. I am from Puerto Rico so I decided the best way I could purchase this beast was via money wiring. The service representative walk me through the whole process and everything wen't quite smooth.
The Wait!! Oooh the wait!!
Well to be honest this is of course the hardest part. My last laptop was a Sager 8790 (which by the way was a great machine) and I got used to ordering and receiving everything within a week. Anyhows i decided that i wanted this rig no matter what, the painting feature had great influence of course . Overall i convinced myself to forget the laptop until there was at least a week left. When a month and a week passed i started to freak out, but i understood the the painting was the factor so i remained as cool as possible. Customer service was helpfull and always returned emails which maid me feel very confortable.
The Shipping
The laptop was sent on a friday to my dismay. The package was a 2 business day air so that meant, friday, the whole weekend, monday and tuesday. I was cracking up. On tuesday night the laptop finally arrived. The box was smaller than i though to my surprise. Everything was well packaged and the laptop came wrapped with what my girlfriend could described as a pillow case of the same material as those cloths one uses to wax a car (Niiiice!).
First Impression
All i could see was the unbelievable paint job. Phew! It blew my mind... you can still smell the paint... And the baby is a heavywieght! Huge! The only thing i noticed was that there was still a bit of wax or whatever they use to shine the machine, but no problem, used the pillow case they gave me and finished it off!!!
Display
The image was crispy clean, nice and shiny. Have not found a dead pixel yet and im sure i won't. Its exactly the same display as my deceased 8790 so i wasnt that blowned away by it.
Sound
This is the only bad thing i found. It sucks unbelievably. My 8790's sound was bad as well but better than the sound of the EX7. I produce music so of course im very demanding when it comes to sound. Even on headphones this sounds bad. I will need to purchase an audio interface eventually for my music production needs.
For the gamer in you...
This machine has not even hiccuped to anything I've thrown at it. I installed Fear and put everithing at maximun, everything!!! Anti-Aliasing Max,Anisotropic Filtering Max.... And this baby runs smooth and laughs at you... If you wan't to game this is the machine to get.
Overall performance
To give you an idea of how fast this machine is, I was installing Fear, installing Nero from the cd, playing music, browsing the internet, all at the same time! Fear and every other game i have are in images so i load them up using power iso virtually. This baby was asking for more! It is unbelievable. I oredered the machine without a hardisk cause i still had one from the 8790. This was the only bottleneck since it is an PATA 7200 60gb. But no biggy cause honestly, a bottleneck i could not really feel.
Another thing that i thought was crappy was what was written in the benchmark papers. The game they used to do benchmark was Quake III Arena WTF??? I mean maybe thats the most efficient way to test it but sounds kinda crappy to me with such an old game. Another thing to consider is the machine's size; its so big that it didnt fit in the bag that i used for my 8790. So I ended up having to buy a new bag for this baby.
All in all, im very happy with my purchase so far, this is a fantastic machine and the paint job well worth the wait.
Here are the pics, enjoy!!!
Hypersonic here finally!
Pillow cased laptop?
Top View, upside down im lazy!
Front View
Bottom View
From the Left side, it looks so purty!
Humble setup + Lappy
Front view again!
These pictures i took very quickly without giving them much thought so they are not so great. They are a bit on the dark side. They show you the idea and thats whats important. Hope you enjoy them. There are a couple of bloopers... tell me if you find one!
Cheers!
