Win Xp Vs Osx

Thread Starter
First of all I prefer OSX functinality and workflow. But as a graphic designer I need performance. Now that I installed Boot Camp and started working with really heavy files in Illustrator, I can see now how Rosetta is slowing my Intel-Mac. Universal applications are ok but Adobe software is not yet universal and it won't be until next year.

Another good thing about XP is that now Macs can be a gaming platform!!! I'`m playing FEAR at high settings flawlessly!!! In OSX I couldn't even decently play DOOM 3 at low setings.

This Boot Camp leaves me with a bittersweet taste. I can get an overdose of performance in XP that I can't get right now in OSX. Which is a superior OS with a better workflow (Expose).

I'm just counting the days to see the END OF ROSETTA.

P.D: I'm thinking of switching to XP for a while...

Yes, I think Boot Camp brings the best of both worlds together. If I had a MBP, I wish, I would use OS X for everything except gaming. Windows would probably be used just for gaming and/or things that I would not be able to do on OS X, such as the Adobe apps.

Can you see all the files from WinXP and OS X or is it not possible yet?

I really hope that by the time I get my macbook there's some way to play games natively. Such as like WINE, or Apple being clever dicks.

Aren't the games being playing natively now?
No, they're on XP. I want them in OSX.

I think this move will hurt the process and chances of companies making games for mac, now that gamers can duel boot windows on their macs.

That sound you heard was the point going over your head.

dont like the osx workflow, its a mess, i must have my taskbar. now that said, of all the UIs i tried, i'd say Gnome and XFCE are by far the better ones, though Redmond (windows ui) ain't that bad.

Ohh, was that sarcasm? Clever!

My point still stands: I want the games to be playable in OSX. So I have one operating system. I want to be able to play BF2, HL and everything else in OSX. My phrasing was a bit sloppy, I know XP is running natively, but having another OS just to run games is not very elegant or simple.

Octagerians in need of a Viagra hit have made a better points.

What's Apple supposed do, call up Valve and threaten to beat them up if they don't bring HL to OS X?

If you have a pointy penis, then you are a bit odd.

There are many things that could happen:

Wine, or Darwine, which is being worked on could be ready by the time I have enough money to buy.

MS could offer a version of direct x for osx (unlikely, it cuts into their profits).

I expressed a hope that I would be able to play games in osx. I didnt say "This is defintely going to happen" or "Apple is gay if they don't do this". I said

"I really hope that by the time I get my macbook there's some way to play games natively."

which, now that we've cleared up my poor phrasing, is a fairly simple and non-contentious statement. You sem unable to grasp that I'm not saying definites, I'm just expressing a hope that this will happen.

And yeah, penis and viagra jokes. Those are ****ing hilarious. You should be a comedian or something. Do you tihnk that by comparing my point to flacid cock you are being clever? Grow up, grow some balls and then try make a joke.

//edit

And on topic, while OSX does take a bit of time to learn for a windows user, once you get used to it it is much more intuitive, at least for me.

been using osx more or less pretty regularly since it was first released... still hate how things go about on it from time to time. also hate all the uber lag that comes with the eye-candy and hardware that is NOT meant to run the eyecandy in the first place.
I've only used it on PM G5's or intel macs, so I can't speak for lag.

when i said that i was refering to G3 iMac and G4 eMac systems

He both implied so, and said so in another thread that he was running it on older hardware. Even I can remeber, it was something about the machines at school.

He said "and hardware that is NOT meant to run the eyecandy". Why the sarcasm?

the same reason i wouldn't bother mentioning how the windows xp interface sucks on machines built for 98 & Me, which have integrated video and 128MB of system RAM. also, abf often comes off as an expert to new forum members, when much of his experience comes from "commons" computers and playing on his friends G3 that's had mobo probs. he's welcome to comment on his experience, but rarely if ever does he qualify how limited it is in scope.
But he did in this case, surely. And he normally says "The g3's at school" or whatever. So the assumption that he doesnt comment on where the experience comes from is bollocks.

Also, windows xp doesnt suck on crappy machines, it's perfectly useable on a 233 p2 with 128mb ram. Hell, I even had it going on 32 mb (that was painful....).

at one point i ran XP on:
P1 w/MMX 233mhz
64mb ram
8mb Savage video
18gb 5400rpm hdd.

a tad slow, of course, but could still easily do office/internet work.

Try running openSuse/KDE3.5 on that machine, you will see what slow really means.
