Correct and Dolby headphone is better than CMSS and also better than CMSS-3D (the Xifi version of CMSS), but that's the breaks. I'd have preferred the Dolby Digital Master suite - but I can manage with CMSS (Audigy 2) and having the benefit of EAX. But I would have preferred Dolby Headphone over having EAX, because I prefer better 3D positioning of sounds vs environmental immersion.
Yes, GPZ, it is from the drivers page that we are able to have some of these discussions.
I'm not entirely sure if it would be possible to have CMSS-3D work on an Audigy chip. I suppose it "might" be made to work with some hardware work, but don't expect anything other than basic CMSS over headphones. Most folks won't really know the difference unless you've heard it and heard it over reasonable headphones capable of good 3D imaging. If I was offered the choice of either Audigy2 grade sound or Dolby Master Suite sound on a laptop solution where headphones might get used a fair portion of the time, I'd choose the Dolby. But do realize that either is a huge step up from basic HD 5.1 or AC97.
If you have good headphones, Dolby labs has a pretty impressive demonstration of Dolby headphone and it is one of the few that positions sound sources coming from in front of you actually in front as opposed to coming in the center of your head. Sorry that's difficult to explain further till you've heard it.
We still don't know the clocks of the 7900 yet which will be a point of note. I'm assuming they didn't put dual HD's in the thing but if they did that might explain the Red model being $700 more than the regular black model. There is still a lot more to be known on this one. But yes I'm eagerly awaiting "ok you can order it now on page xxx" info myself.
