Umm..it's in the same place as at least the 9300s and 9400s (I'm sure the same place as on the xps lines too)

incase you don't see it, it's the one next to the headphone jack and above the 5 in 1 card reader

I should have been more specific. I just want to replace the metal part of the cover. Red or black metal vice the current one, keeping the black trim to match the rest of the laptop.

Probably just dreaming anyway. Too much work for little gain since I usually look at the screen and not the back.

XPS Gen2 mysteriously missing in Canada!

Strang that the XPS Gen2 Notebooks are no longer listed on the canadian Dell site (dell.ca) they just have the Inspiron 9400 there all by it's lonesome under 'NOTEBOOKS'...I guess the 1710 is coming out tomorrow morning!

What the hell is farther up - a SmartCard reader?

BTW..for all those who care to know, you can now get "support" for your M1710 in the support area (http://support.dell.com). if you go to choose a product model and choose xps/inspiron, you can then choose M1710 in the drop down next to it . Just a heads up

edit: It shows up in the list, but when you try and submit the form it gives an error. But it's one more clue that it's being released soon (BTW, the M90 was up for sale 2 weeks ago and you still can't get support for it...LOL it doesn't show up in the precision model list...hehheeh)

Nice. Finally looks like we'll have that model at the same time as the US for a change.

The pics have the mini 4 pin one. I have yet to see the 6 pin version on a laptop, but I would love to see that too.

The card reader slot has been moved to under the firewire and audio jacks, certainly compared to my XPS2 or pics on Dells site of M170 or 9400.
Maybe it's more than 5-in-1 this time.

Yeah. It's not possible to switch out just the metal part. It's all molded together. It would be nice though to do this.

just noticed "M1710" is now an option listed in the dropdown menu under drivers & download support, though there's no drivers available, yet

So...where is it? I thought it was supposed to come out today?
I'll wait to see two things:

1. Will it be upgradeable to 64 bit Merom?
2. Will it be upgradeable to a DX 10 GPU?

These are my two cents, in the mean time, I'm happy with my i9300.

yeah I'm still waiting on the m1710, I barely got any sleep last night because I had to keep checking dell.com like santa claus was coming or something.
